To be fair, the situation changed significantly with russia's (recent) invasion of Ukraine. Not too many people were campaigning for a total ban on Russian imports in January of this year.

I don't think destroying the EU's manufacturing capacity is a good long-term choice.

The West needs to be rallying around to sort these situations because we are opposed to Russia, we are essentially at war with Russia even though we aren't directly in armed conflict and the situation looks like deepening and broadening a long way before it is finished.

I don't disagree.

Things could always be faster or better. The movement is in the right direction and the vice will tighten over time.

Arguably, it's better in some ways to be able to further impose sanctions/ pressure in future. Once a man has nothing to lose, negotiation is difficult.

But at the end of the day it's war.
Not for Poland or the UK or you it isn’t.
That’s why we can sit in the sun or fly in holiday or travel to Russia without the worry about being shot.
That the rest of the world can carry in without any real disruption…because we are NOT at war.

If you think the people of WWI or WW2 thought they were in some way blessed… then you’re a ****.
It does ignore ALL the other wars that we’ve not got involved with. ALL the other NOT world wars. Guess what they are numbered more than 2.
Ignoring wars is the norm.
Who did we back and be at war with in all the other ongoing work conflicts?

Deus(e) est machina? It looks ridiculous those two are fighting. Though Roff spotted the preliminary border moves early on - I imagined then being so clearly observable, surely Russia wouldnt invade. But they did.

Exactly the EU only has itself to blame. If you dance with a monster you need to be prepared to fight the monster. The EU (Germany) is 100% at fault. The German economy needs a slap in the face due to them only ever doing what is best for Germany.

What is your excuse for the 70's problem when we had the taps turned off by Saudi Arabia? We suffered then.

You cannot know what will happen in the future. Even during the Cold War, Russia was supplying Europe with energy.

So you want them to trash their economy but never mind they will be OK in years to come.

Unfortunately, unlike the UK, they have adults in charge and are not going to damage their own country.

They and your good self seem to have a somewhat warped definition of a Union in the context of the EU and what common policies on trade means.... Goalposts within the EU seem to arbitrarily move around.

Is this the definition of the term commonly bandied about in the Speaker's Corner called "Whataboutary"?

Yes and from that lesson we built in contingency....that is the difference the lesson.

We really didn't

Look what happened with the Gulf war, look whats happening to our prices now

It purely a luck thing in reality that we are less affected. We buy out oil and gas from places that are just as volatile. In fact until a couple of months ago, historically, they were more volatile.

Germany dropped the ball more than anything when they went anti nuclear.

Has anyone seen confirmation of the Grigorovich-class frigate being hit/sunk? because all the reliable sources, especially those for naval stuff, are saying there is zero which would indicate it to be the case.

Even your god said what I am saying.

"He cautioned the EU against going ahead with the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. No country should use energy as a weapon, Biden said referring to past episodes of Moscow cutting off gas supplies in winter."

"US Vice President Joe Biden warned European countries against becoming too dependent on Russian oil and gas, saying it would be "bad" for Europe."

Germany is doing nothing other than supporting russia.

Considering if I was American I wouldn't have voted for Biden in a primary but in a general I would have voted for a monkey that spent its day pleasuring itself rather than Trump as it would be a better president, its hard to say he's my god, plus I'm an atheist and so don't believe in gods.

When you've invented a time machine and can go back and change the decision of lots of European nations regarding Russian gas then great. Until then cutting off their gas by blowing up the pipeline is probably the stupidest thing that could be done right now and would hurt Ukraine as well as every other European nation including the UK.

Great so we blow up a pipeline like deuse suggests and plunge Europe into a recession to teach those European nations a lesson. Of course the UK also suffers but hey, we showed those EU nations.
