Worrying if true.

Reasonably large fight for Marinka happened apparently. Both sides reporting 20+ dead and hundred or so WIA. OCSE generally saying its the "rebels" attempting to advance.

Gaider institute is reckoning of a defence and law enforcement spending rate of 34 % of GDP. double that of 2010. Rough guess as russia is now keeping secret 25% of its spending (normal for other nations is about 1%)

I thought this was kind of lol:

Guess schools out for summer XD

I feel sorry for them, just trying to live a normal life and aspire for a future while it all goes to **** around them. Though likely a propaganda image.

Looking more and more like Russia might be thinking of an invasion - taking a lot of pre-emptive steps like cutting off supplies, putting pressure on movement, etc. that would weaken their ability to react and sustain a defence.

They already invaded, they just found a way to do it without the general worldly populace batting an eye.

Considering the sheer brute force capability just cross the border, it's either your common cold-waresque Russian Ruse or a serious preparedness for a war.

The question is, does NATO respond and if so...

Is it over? :O

Russia cuts off power supplies to Ukraine rebels: Kiev

Kiev (AFP) - Kiev said Tuesday that Russia had cut off electricity to Ukraine's rebel-run regions in what appears to be another sign that Moscow is losing interest in plans to splinter its neighbour.

The veteran Kremlin leader had fervently promoted the project while the separatists were gaining ground along Ukraine's eastern industrial heartland toward the end of last year.

But Ukrainian insurgents who claimed to be in charge of re-creating a part of the old Russian empire have in recent weeks complained of a sudden lack of interest from the Kremlin and a dire shortage of funds.

Ukraine's Energy Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn said Tuesday that energy-rich Russia had recently also stopped supplying electricity to the militia-run regions of Lugansk and Donetsk because bills were not being paid.

"We held fairly productive negotiations with the Russians," Interfax-Ukraine quoted Demchyshyn as telling an energy ministry meeting. "We have been able to switch off four lines that ran from Russia to territories outside our control."

Not sure if this has been brought up earlier, but what impact is this going to have on completing the new containment structure for Chernobyl ? The current sarcophagus built back in 1986 had a 30 year shelf life and is reportedly falling apart. Technically Ukraine is in a state of war ? I can't imagine there are too many contractor willing to stay in the area to see the completion of the project ?

I'd have thought with Chernobyl being way out into the west of Ukraine, that the conflict around the Donbas region wouldn't really have much, if any impact.
