Saw a video of recent fighting just south west of there - first bit was from a distance with just insane volleys of fire going back and forth and then later a view of what looked like a dozen destroyed APCs. Doesn't seem to have been reported anywhere but seemed like a fairly major engagement.

Well, Kiev claim they launched a surprise offensive and heroically claimed back territory from the rebels, makes sense they would be lying about their losses.

A ceasefire was arranged some time ago by Russia, Germany and France (Minsk Peace Agreements). From what I can see, the Ukranian government is advancing into the rebel-held areas with heavy weapons and Kiev is confirming they are. The rebels are retaliating in kind. So both sides are violating the agreement now.

With Trump giving signs he wants to reduce tensions between the US and Russia, the Ukranian government probably sees their chances of regaining the territory slipping from them. Basically a now-or-never approach.

Maybe that if you can be put in a group with Stalin, the Nazi party and Genghis Kahn, you're doing something wrong.

Oh agreed, although I disagree with his assertion the yanks are the seeming square root of all evil with their foreign policy.

But this is talk about Ukraine and Russia, not America and their rights/wrongs.

If you've committed a crime, pointing at someone else and saying but they did it too isn't a defence.

Not it is not. This method is a KGB propaganda style named "whataboutism".

However, the issue at hand here is that who decides what is right or wrong? Let's say that tomorrow England will reduce itself to a total anarchy. Are you going to follow the bible, UN Resolution or previous laws of the land in this situation?

Or your rights and wrongs will adapt to the situation you find yourself in? Meaning that you will pretty much break all of these "guidelines" in order to survive.

Looting or killing isn't a defense but what if everyone is doing it are you going to decide to be righteous and just sit there and let yourself be killed and looted?

Except the US is embroiled in practically every affair, to say they didn't have anything to do with the Orange Revolution would be utterly foolish considering their massive hard on for regime change.

It is not an attempt to reduce Putin's guilt, but to show that this is hardly strange in foreign affairs, especially since they have actual borders.

Of course russia will say it isnt and block any UN attempt at an investigation with its veto... (why do we even have these stupid vetos...)

and people wonder why everyone keeps harping on about russia being the baddie...

Welp, this confirms what every sane person already suspected: 'MH17: Investigators confirm Russian missile was used to shoot down plane.'

As usual, Bellingcat was way ahead of the curve. This is a huge vindication for them.

What a surprise, I think I had an argument with one of the resident conspiraloons in the more recent poisoning thread - he was still convinced (perhaps after watching too much RT) that the Ukrainians did it. Someone else in there seemed to think that the launcher would be easy to operate and therefore anyone could have done it (as if these things are just left lying around).

It was pretty clear a while ago that it was a Russian army unit... or at least a Russian launcher and some Russian soldiers who had "officially" resigned to go and fight on their "holiday".

To be fair as pointed out you can find the manuals online for many of these systems and there are even step by step YouTube videos based on an accurate simulator. Though I doubt just anyone would find that useful - for instance personally I've a reasonable understanding of things like when would be appropriate to use the different firing modes which isn't something that can just be spelled out in a manual.
