It is interesting how there don't seem to be many good counters to large numbers of cheap drones, with old AA guns seeming the best option so far... Would think there would be more electronic countermeasures or anti drone guns or anti-drone drones in operation by now, so expensive SAMs don't have to be wasted.
The videos of drones being disabled and even captured using jamming or other electronic measures are impressive, but seems these systems aren't very widespread yet...
Imagining that short range AA guns like below might become more popular for point defence
As well I could imagine some kind of small fast drone that could be hand launched and guided or just given a general direction and range of the target programmed in, but then just some basic image recognition running from a camera to actually close with the target and blow it up.
Must be possible to produce some super basic SAMs (or drone launched air to air missiles... ) in large quantities for cheap too - if you have other systems for targeting jets and helicopters etc, and it's designed purely to combat slow basic drones powered by moped engines or loitering munitions it doesn't need to be very advanced or high performance to do the job...
There must be people out there working on things like this, as drone swarms have been a threat that has been discussed for a long time now...
