With that NATO AWACS in Poland wonder if they are anticipating or have been ballistic missile (or airborne cruise) launches from Belarus.

Lets be honest, when Britain and Germany were levelling cities in WW2 it didn't cause either country to throw in the towel. The mind boggles at the justification the Russian media is trying to spout.

You have to put yourself in the Russian mindset.

If they control (or even hold) territory, that is a win for them.

If they do that by obliterating civilian infrastructure, and killing civilians, that is acceptable to them.

It's not pretty, but that's how they operate.

Something for some reason people aren't listening when Putin says it - despite being quite plain about it - Putin doesn't care what happens to the people in Ukraine - doesn't care to subjugate them, doesn't care if they die - would be quite happy to drive them all out the country so as to achieve his goals. Then moments later will say what a tragedy is happening to the people of Ukraine - and that is all certain people hear as well.
 
Putin has no patience ultimately going to cost him dear.

Feel sorry for soldiers like above no hope, as said on here before would be better for Russia to cut losses hold defensively and train up new troops over harsh winter that come out there.

They're not holding now though, so to shore up defenses they send in untrained mobilised troops with poor equipment.

Better for Russia to leave full stop but that isn't happening either. I feel sorry for the loss of life on both sides really, but I still want Ukraine to win and they have every right to kill invaders, willing ones or unwilling.

Not even most of them, i suspect most Russians don't care for or want this war, they just want to get on with their lives. Same was germans in ww2, I bet a huge chuck didn't agree with what the Nazis were doing and wanted nothing to do with it

no but it made the german public start to question the wisdom of their leaders. Same tactics here I guess, Putin fighting a war of attrition and directly targeting civies in a hope that they then pass pressure on to the political class to cut a deal with Russia to end the fighting i.e Russia gets to have it's occupation of those regions validated.

In this case it won't work though as the Ukrainians have quite a lot of steel in their balls.

This. In another reality, you'd have met him and his mates on holiday, had a beer, talked about your lives and thought "nice guy".

Before the keyboard warriors jump in. What would you do if you were called up and told your family would suffer if you resisted?

It's not simple, there are no easy answers. One certainly, war is obnoxious.

Well this question can't really be answered considering what passes as culture in Russia is something the UK and most of the West has very little in common with except perhaps younger Russians but even then the rotten machismo and weapons-grade apathy that has ruined their country for centuries still affects them as well as their interactions with Westeners.

Unfortunately they only really understand violence and that has been evident every time we've avoided conflict (Chechnya, Georgia, Crimea/Donbass and numerous other transgressions).

After watching a programme about fishermen the other night and seeing them drag nets along the sea bed I wouldn't be surprised it that was the cause
 
That does seem extremely suspicious... Could just be a coincidence and two fishing boats have damaged them, but sounds like a relatively rare occurrence.
 
Sharks have been known to attack cables as well. I’m sure with what is going on at the moment they will want to rule out malicious causes but it’s likely nothing to be concerned about.

I remember watching the movie Hope and Glory about a family living through the Bliz in WW2 London, they went out for the night and came back to their house burning down. They thought it got struck by a German V2 bomb but the fireman turned round and said someone left the iron on, and that normal house fires happens during the war too.
