When I first looked at it I wondered if they had fallen off the bridge and were floating down the river :D

Agreed, but that doesn't mean they won't have left troops and traps to make retaking the city difficult for Ukraine. A small number of soldiers hidden in the city can make a disproportionate impact since it makes Ukraine sweep the city slowly, carefully, and comprehensively.

I'm 50/50 the new general has a reputation for being brutal but also more organised and might be consolidating to defendable lines for the winter and while they bring a larger number of forces up to speed.
 
The new general is air arms, and not a clue about boot on ground, read about his appointment. It suits Putin methodology no more than that.

They've probably left some booby traps behind, I imagine the extent of this depends how chaotic their withdrawal really was. I think it's unlikely they've purposefully left any soldiers behind, it would be a suicide mission.
