Russians freezing to death because engineers that would be maintaining electrical/gas systems were drafted

There is a bit of irony here, Russia said the rest of Europe freeze to death with no gas; but European gas storage is full and its Russians dying

I mean that strategy is just retarded on so many levels. Fair enough draft urgently if your country is being invaded, but to do so in this scenario is just mind boggling. At least they can experience what they’re inflicting on the Ukrainians.

Not true.
Many (most?) won't want to watch the most gruesome vids simply because they're very disturbing, but shutting your eyes to the reality of war distances you from it right? Perhaps if I don't see it then it's not happening? I don't get a 'buz' out of seeing Russians blown up but it does help me understand what both Russian and Ukrainian troops are having to go through and that the cost of winning is very high. Better that than reading a white-washed page of statistics listing deceased personnel. Sometimes we need reminding it's not a game.

I've not watched a single one of the drone videos. I've got absolutely zero inclination to see that.

Taking joy in watching humans being killed is down right weird. I fully support Ukraine from a political, moral, economical viewpoint etc. but I'm not going to take any joy in Russian kids being killed. Jesus.

Just taking the OcUK forum there's plenty enough information posted in this thread to paint the picture. I've no wish, and no need, to see the videos.

Maybe some are watching the videos for the reasons you state but there are obviously some who are watching them for sick entertainment.

Thats a lovely horse you got there must be fun looking down from it all the time...

It's actually based on finding people who get gratification from violent death very disturbing (something I would have thought would be universal), rather than a "high horse" issue for me, but if you need to tell me I'm on my high horse so that you can justify the barbarity in other peoples posts then thats upto you I suppose.

20+ years in Military seeing the very occasional violent death or injury at first hand also helps sadly.

I've not agreed with 100% of your political points in this chat but you've been consistent on calling out the hypocrisy and at times, sociopathic comments of a large number of people in this thread. Respect.

I have in the past looked for videos but not looked for a long time as its just too hard to find them, its not for enjoyment though its to educate myself on what war is like.

My question for those in the thread though and this is a big concern. What happens if/when Russia are forced out of Ukraine, do they go nuclear or accept the defeat as it is? I fear the more they pushed back the more they will be willing to escalate.

I watch the videos that I come across out of morbid curiosity. I don't recall the part where it has impacted my empathy for others.

I think some people in this thread are overestimating how many people actually watch these videos for satisfaction rather than just being morbidly curious.

I have occasionally clicked on some of them purely out of curiosity, however I have limits on doing it too much and any image/video with an especially grotesque description or blatant war crimes are getting avoided.

To reject our fascination of violence is to reject our humanity. We are a violent species.

We can try to better ourselves but there are some people out there that are plain evil and need putting down.

That russian sitting in that fox hole always had a choice and I would have chosen prison worst case any day with no other option available.

To claim your average Russian doesn't know what's going on after 9 months is beyond ignorance.

They have mouths an ears and hear the rumours and choose the murder the Ukrainian option anyway so **** them and I drink a glass of wine whilst watching them vids.

It is easy to say sitting comfortably in the UK - Russian prisons are often ****** horrendous a chance the worst case is far more violent even death for some (the kind of stuff which went on in Bucha, etc. Russians have no problem carrying out against their own people either) and a good chance of repercussions against their family as well - dependants can lose any support from the state, etc. as punishment and many of these soldiers are being recruited conscripted from poor segments of society where they'll rely on what little support from the state they can get.

How much Russians know varies vastly - those in the big cities like Moscow, the so called "European Russia" will have about as much access to information as we do (some will even still have access to BBC international programming, etc.), those in the remote parts of the Russian far east, etc., where a lot of these conscripts are coming from, can be quite isolated with limited information - they might have heard some rumours but they will have a very different perspective to what is going on compared to those of us in the West.

I pretty much guarantee some of the opinions banded about in this thread at various points by people of what they'd do if they were a Russian/Russian soldier would go very different in reality if they were in that position.

EDIT: It is also difficult in any situation for individuals to get organised as a collective and effect change against a tyrannical power, even when those in power are a relative small number. Look how many workplaces no one will stand up to a tyrannical boss let alone a context like the military/politics.

That's the question pretty everyone is thinking and nobody likes the potential answers. Putin has pretty much placed his entire legacy and future on winning this war. If Russia is defeated he knows the hardliners won't tolerate it and it likely means it's revolution time with him getting unceremoniously shot and thrown in a ditch.

When a tyrant like Putin is faced with such an outcome losing is not an option this he'll try to win by any means necessary. So if he thinks he can get Ukraine to back down by deploying a strategic nuke on a major city he might just do that if desperate enough.
