I suspect any bio or chemical attack would be the last straw. I think china would be concerned of the response.

Interesting that Saudi is wanting to join BRICS - essentially a free chequebook to bash the Israelis and not be slaves to the petrodollar.

Only issue is that there's still opportunities and a lot to loose within BRICS.. and the saudis will soon discover they're still slaves.. but to a different currency.

Yea Russia lost in Afghanistan but America lost in both Vietnam and Afganistan, along with us, we have no victory to celebrate their either. The Falklands is what victory looks like.

i think in this situation it's important for you to look at it context: Afghan 2001 ->2021 wasn't nation building, supporting the govt. or anything else. it had a specific aim: to prevent the country becoming a haven for terrorist organisations to launch attacks against western countries. which it did
the lack of attacks against western nations is testament to this

that the Talis were going to return to power, or at least be the major power in the country was never in any doubt. however; they have not allowed AQ to reuse the training camps which were there prior to 9/11

at some point the coalition had to withdraw. and because of the nature of insurgencies the threat to friendly forces was always going to outweigh the potential for 'gains' however you interpret them to look.

it was 45's (trump) decision to announce a withdrawal date. all that Biden & the Dems did was follow that thru.

your point about Op Corporate (Falklands) is bang on. but conflicts like that; nation against nation. with a defined objective. are so few and far between that the lessons which infantry learned from that are still relevant these days

the Vietnam conflict was more convoluted and the deciding factor was that the people back in the US couldn't see any value in soldiers dying en masse for no good reason (that people could see)

I also suspect that China is waiting on the west to have drained their supply of components..

I wonder how long it will take before the Middle East simply falls apart with new weapons..

Mainly because the state pays them and gives them food each month. I had a Russian almost-gf for a bit and she basically spent the money as fast as it came in.. the expectation is that magically the money came in each month.. no saving.. she explained that it was the way that Russians were brought up (this is a daughter of a doctor and lawyer in russia so perhaps not the norm but the concept of simply living on the state hand outs is applicable for most of Russians). The capitalism experiment missed most and Putin culled the new money making generation before he lost power (by handouts).

Which is also what they weaponise against the population - if someone does something undesirable, deserts from the army, etc. etc. their family/relatives are likely to have their state support cut.
