I don't know why people assume Russia invading Kazakhstan would somehow be OK, or that no one would care. The key difference here is that it's nearer to us, and as such we have a real possibility of doing something. Russia may well have found Kazakhstan an easier target because logistics.

I'm on the side of whichever country doesn't deserve it. China attacking Taiwan, North Korea attacking SK, Turkey attacking Greece etc. All have the same kind of deal.

Also this isn't a minor conflict far removed from things, this is one of the worlds great powers making moves, that tends to gain more attention because there aren't that many great powers to begin with.

We haven't had an issue with getting involved with far off conflicts when it suits us, so that's a totally specious argument. We haven't had an issue with effectively ignoring conflicts that are far away when it suits us. The defining element is "when it suits us", and the Russian political set up, strongly nationalistic, still strongly Orthodox religious, with an entrenched anti "woke" mindset, does not suit many elements in the West who have got so far in engineering a different social situation that they fear their woke work may become unravelled and further highlighted if Russia gains more traction.

Let me give an example of how "we" allow oppression and political bullying to flourish when it suits us. Cast your eyes around your home and person, and say that your concerns for how China have oppressed and suppressed elements they find nationalistically and politically unenriching, and how your spending has been modified to oppose their actions...

"When it suits us".

That's proberbly because nobody cared when Russia invaded and wrecked Georgia in 2008. Strong language was used but nothing was done, Georgia's NATO aspirations were nixed and Russia went on with things as normal, because European/American politicians weren't about to cause problems with Russia over an Asian country.

If you care to look on a map, geographically Russia is divided into European Russia and Asiatic Russia. Plus those of us with strong nationalistic ties see ourselves as British or English, Welsh or Scottish, as demonstrated by the recent referendum, not tied to the European Union and not considering ourselves foremost under the broader umbrella of European.

The currently militarily active parts of Russia engaging The Ukraine are just as European as any other geographical member. Personally I think the majority of fevered members so anti Russia are coming from a political entrenchment more than a moralistic one. If Russia had invaded say Kazakhstan few here would have given a monkey's.

Political certainly and there is a war raging in Europe for hearts and minds. There are weaker states, Italy certainly and hostile ones Hungary definitely however a consensus has been reached that Russia has overstepped the mark and it's borders. Forty years ago they may have got away with it but not this century. I am nationalistic to a point, European geographically but seperate and even feel that Britain may once again be pulling European nuts out of the fire (in conjunction with Atlantic cousins). Nevertheless Putin must be stopped. Eighty years back it was Hitler and that was no less a European problem which was eventually sorted if bloodily.

...

So, we're supplying arms to defend an invaded European country because we're worried they will take our rainbow flags away?

Really?

Considered, balanced, and respected, thanks Hagar :)

Undoubtedly some will be being magnanimous to Ukraine because they see their own agenda of wokeness potentially being eroded if Russia regains territory and with it, clout, territorially, politically and influentially. They plainly and publicly condemn that Russia is scathing of gender fluidity, gay marriage, duo same sex adoption, anti nationalism, blah blah, so these views of many in Russia, but abhorrent to them, will of course entrench their support for Ukraine, not because they feel simply Ukraine herself is being wronged, but as a major additional consequence their personal wokeness is being wronged.

Anyway, short of an almost suicidal concerted and confident land and air attack from NATO, (such as it currently, is apart from the USA), I see Ukraine slowly having seven bells knocked from her, and the West merely left with massive financial and military equipment losses, never to be repaid, and long standing escalated fuel and food costs. Would Ukraine have done the same for anyone else... ? Highly doubtful. It's as corrupt as Russia and probably as fluid as a hooker with her friends and associations.

Russia has spent the best part of a year trying to conquer Ukraine, and managed to lose 50% of the territory she occupied during that time. This should have been a walk in the park, but Putin can't even reach Kyiv.

Ukraine is faring far better than Poland, which fell to the Nazis in 6 weeks. Yet we still went to war for Poland. Should we have refused?

UK weapons manufacturers apparently not shy to tender for manufacturing opportunities in Ukraine , maybe that came from clandestine Gove/Lammy think thank meeting,
however, NATO criticizing UK's application for first responder force 5K men due to men/weapons capability ominous.

Can you please update to the release version of chatgpt this alpha version you use is really difficult to make any sense of.

People have challenged you on your 'opinions' and then you just do a runner when it doesn't go your way and you refuse to respond to the questions asked. Are you really surprised when you keep throwing your toys out of your pram?

I say "1+1=2" - people decide to invent/lie that I said "1+1=3" instead and then tell me why thats completely wrong and that I'm bad for even saying it - I ask them to quote my post saying "1+1=3" but they don't because I never have. However, because in their mind they think I have said "1+1=3" (something they made up) now they think I'm a liar for denying it and the attacks continue whilst the original point being made gets lost in the back/forth of worthless quoting.

In the end I walk away because it's pointless talking to people who invent things to argue against, rather than what I said. They see me walk away and think they've "won" something whereas in reality all thats happened is I get sick of the constant lies they tell, which are automatically believed by the same select group of posters who then also pile in with more lies and at no point ever has anyone ever quoted my post where I say "1+1=3".

...............and now, stupidly, I'm back quoting people, back being dragged back into yet more pointless posts derailing the thread from Ukraine. It's just such a monumental waste of everyone's time arguing with people who can't point to a post and say "here is where you said 1+1=3" yet still say thats what I've done, it's just all so depressingly predictable but they just can't help it I suppose.

Can you take it up in messaging or something?

Tiresome all this rubbish. I want to read about the conflict, not this sort of stuff :)
