As interesting as that would be, seems a bit far fetched and wouldnt have the established production line that would be required for delivery in any reasonable timeline.

Production is the kicker with just about anything :(

There was quite a bit of money spent at the end - dunno what it all went on.

If you think that number is surprising look at what has been spent on Ajax, warrior upgrade, the canclled Nimrod project, or even the current Morpheus Project... A joke and so far a complete failure of a procurement programme, absolutely criminal...

According to your chart American overseas presence has never been smaller since the end of ww2 and it's rapidly declining, America's world police force declines as globalisation and trade dies off with less need to protect commerce around the world

At this stage no one else has stepped up so it will continue to be a decline albeit slow one. No one else is standing up to patrol the oceans, not even China. The number of people around the world dying from conflicts each was in decline since ww2 and now it's picking up again for the last few years, will only get worse as the US pulls back further

Maldova says it wants Russian soldiers removed
This, is arguable the biggest single potential escalation since the day Russia invaded Ukraine last year. A terrible idea that could potentially cause serious escalation.

If the new Moldovan government want to try and take Transnistria then do it after the Ukraine/Russia war has ended for gods sake >.>

The west continues to rearm and supply Ukraine but if China or Iran want to supply Russia ooooo that is bad.
Well lets flip it around for you.

Remember 85 odd years ago when Russia was being conquored by Germany and the west gave then the arms/supplies they needed to avoid defeat. Would you have considered it okay if say Spain and Japan had started supplying Germany so they could take Moscow/Leningrad?

There's nothing wrong with aiding the bullied in defending themselves from bullies, there is something wrong with helping the bullies.

If anything the outcome of a nuclear exchange these days is worse than before - more of the country might survive - but it won't be much of an existence - all modern ways of life pretty much gone, infrastructure and major hubs will be amongst the first things hit. Nuclear weapons in the kiloton range are still pretty devastating and Russia still has an arsenal capable of turning the entire landmass of the UK into glass many times over albeit they'd never use them all against us.
It's worth noting at this point that while Russia has ~6000 nuclear warheads, they are a tad more difficult to maintain than tanks are, and, well.

At this point I'm inclined to think the only danger Russian missiles pose to the UK is if they're targeted at Pretoria city... :P

Wonder what the US is bringing into Poland tonight - some reach flights and some heavy lift cargo with multiple AWACS type flights up along with a Rivet Joint, fighter cover, etc.

EDIT: Probably largely related to Biden's visit.

The change around with republicans has been interesting. They went from completely against helping Ukraine to: ok now we support Ukraine and now they've reached stage 3 which is: Biden isn't doing nearly enough to help Ukraine, let's send them as many F16s and missiles as they need to completely wipe out the Russian army. Mind you there are still those in the Republican Party who are against aid and frequently repeat Russian propaganda but it seems more and more of the party is changing their mind

Guys if you are going to report someone and want posts looking at, please stop engaging with the user and just report / ignore them.

It now means it’ll take longer to review and clean the thread.

Edit: I’m also disappointed at the few digs about moderation about a posts made deep into the night. Please remember the mods are volunteers who have families, jobs etc and are not around 24/7 to respond within seconds.

I reported him for these posts several days ago and nothing was done. And he has been left to continue in the thread and derail it. If reporting posts don't get anything done then you can see why people keep referencing it in the thread.

Not to derail the thread, but the lend-lease stuff for Russia did not start arriving until after the Russians had stopped the Germans at Moscow.

The Russians were helped by lend-lease and it certainly helped them turn the tide sooner, but it was not some major game changer that they would have been defeated without it.

No, the mod team were taking a review of the account, we can’t just ban people for a first post. Especially when people engaged with it for hours.

We get multiple thread, post and user reports a day that need to be looked at and actioned. Sometimes this can take a day or two as we await feedback from multiple members of the team, to keep any action (especially involving bans) without bias of a single mod.

Again, if you want to discuss moderation, please use forum content discussion. There will be no further discussion here to prevent going off topic further.

Because they have stakes in the defence contractors, but greed is good in this case. I guess everybody wins.

I’m reminded of that scene from Independence Day where the President asks where all the money for the secret base came from and the old Jewish guy says “You don’t think they (the military) really spend $20,000 on a hammer or $30,000 on a toilet seat?”

They went from completely against helping Ukraine ...

Factually false. Here's an article from March 2022:

More than two dozen Senate Republicans are demanding that President Biden do more to aid war-torn Ukraine and arm its forces against Russia’s brutal assault, after voting last week against $13.6 billion in military and humanitarian assistance for Ukraine.

Trump and Trumpists are another matter

Biden is now confirmed (he is walking around as air raid sirens are going off :o) A Russian MiG-31 took off in Belarus.
