Have you not seen the footage of armored columns being destroyed at Vulhedar? Poor choices have been made repeatedly and consistently by the Russians, they look like amateurs. Russia has a much bigger tolerance of losses compared to the West though.
I had heard of it but was away last month and Internet was poor will have a look now back, my point was should they not be trying to manage there better trained men, rather than waste them, you would have thought the wagner group of prisoners would be better used in such a situation

Biden should just keep making unannounced visits that blow up on news/social media between cities so that Russia don't know if they're starting WW3 or not.

What would the likely fallout be if a Russian rocket took out the potus whilst he is in Kyiv?
I’d imagine large scale attacks on all assets in Ukraine. Probably hit whatever base launched the attack, Belarus or Russia itself. Back channels would be under lining not attacking Russia itself aside those bases to try to keep a lid on it.

Would be dicey though and nothing good for either side would come of it.

Personally, I'm not convinced China would willingly destroy any hope of good relations with the West to side with Russia. China has seen Russia isn't quite the partner you'd want in fight and may well sit on its hands.
China will stand by them because they don't have many allies to rely on.

They need each other, I don't think for one minute China haven't been sending aid to Russia on the quiet.

There are smuggling routes we will never know about. The China Russian border is about 4k miles so plently scope to supply on the quiet

Whilst it's against Moldova's constitution I think the risk of being overthrown by a Russian-backed rebellion that will destroy that constitution anyway is probably enough justification to shift a few thousand Romanian troops into Chisinau, Russia won't do anything about it because it's not at war with Moldova.
You do realise Russia took Transnistria from Moldova by force, the same way they took Crimea?

I said a few pages back that this war would put Transnistria back on the agenda with Moldova seeing the chance to take it back with Ukraine's help, Ukraine will not want Russians on that side of their borders.

Getting rid or Russia from that side would be on the cards, no point in leaving 1500 Russians on their border when they are in no position to stop being sent packing.

You do realise Russia took Transnistria from Moldova by force, the same way they took Crimea?

This isn't really true. Transnistria had a significant movement at ensuring they remained with Russia prior to the Soviet breakup and was never really established as part of Moldova. Unlike Crimea where the people clearly expressed their desire to be part of Ukraine in a free or fair referendum, it's really unclear what the people of Transnistria actually want.

That doesn't excuse Russian actions, but the situation is not a simple parallel to the Russian occupation of Crimea.

I think the real elite units have been taken out a long time ago.

Putting conscripts into the same regiments the Elites came from doesn't make them elite units.
1st guards tank army being a case in point, they were the cream of the cream, the ones to stop NATO dead in its tracks.

Now they don't exist

I dunno, a Russian elite unit seems to at least have had decent training
Has functioning equipment, were maybe actually getting paid etc

Right troops for the right mission, with the right support etc is critical
Reminds me of Al Murray sketch when he was going on about the gulf war, who did the Brits send, the Desert Rats, who did the Americans send, the Marines. All jest of course but in some aspects what you have seen in Ukraine is Russia using Elite troops in the wrong roles.
