TIL the Black Sea is very deep with a maximum depth of 2,212 m

Well at least if Russia were to obtain it it would be a very expensive operation requiring the usage of UUV's, and honestly it probably wouldn't even be worth it to them because from the sounds of its in bits and it was probably self sabotaged before it even hit the sea. It's a recoverable asset loss for the US , but I do wonder if the US continues to send more and the Russians respond in this manner, what kind of measure can they do to put them off such a response.

Does he? He was desperately trying to get Obama out of Afghanistan in 2009.

Pulling out in 2009 era would have sowed the seeds for further destabilisation in the region and a potential civil war within Afghanistan. By that point Afghanistan was a relatively contained conflict which was largely a drain on the US with limited scope for the US military industry.

Pulling out at any time that would have happened, just as it did when they actually pulled out. IIRC he said it was unwinnable and a waste of US lives and $. To be fair he was proved exactly right. I get he has supported US wars in the past but that can be said for the vast majority of Congress and presidents.

I think I finally understand Putin's imperial insanity. He actually believes in a myth that Russia alone is the sole successor and inheritor of both the Greek and Roman empires and therefore anything that was part of those empires now belongs to Russia

I think he might find flying combat missions in Ukraine a very different kettle of fish - none the less as things stand there is a huge risk of being shot down by friendly fire as much as there is by enemy action - anyone taking to the skies of Ukraine is either incredibly brave, incredibly foolish or incredibly skilled.
Someone with that level of experience surely has far more to offer in an advisor/consultant/trainer role then flying single missions that he could realistic not return from.

Something I've been saying for awhile - what Ukraine really needs right now is mobile artillery of the AHS Krab kind and lots of it along with SPAAGs like the Gepard to provide air defences, there is a lot of talk about main battle tanks and jets and sure Ukraine is going to need those but they are very much a secondary priority in what Ukraine needs to shore up its position and turn the momentum (at which point tanks will be needed).

Unlike the older Soviet kit, etc. stuff like the Krab are relatively quick to bring people up to speed on using as well.

Ukraine has lost quite a number of their krabs to russian suicide drones. Krabs are mobile but they cant defend themselves ukraine doesn't have enough anti air systems
