The patriot air defence system is getting deployed well ahead of schedule.

This is because the US planned a 3 month training regime for Ukrainian operators to learn the system. But Kyiv decided to send 65 very experienced air defence operators to the U.S and they were able to learn Patriot in half the planned time, a full 6 weeks ahead of schedule.

The U.S general in charge of getting the Ukrainians trained up said he is very impressed at how quickly they mastered Patriot, he says it's down to the large amount of combat experience the guys have and learning Patriot proved to be much easier than expected for them.

Article from cnn is up; they interviewed one of the trainers and he too had high praise for the Ukranians, specifically saying "I've trained a lot of operators from different countries and these guys from Ukraine smoked them all, we even gave them some extra more advanced intensive training that wasn't planned for"

The death throes of post Soviet Russia.

Conscription ended during the cold war.
And it could return with a single act of Parliament.

Anyone that’s served in HM Armed Forces can be recalled to duty until they reach age 50/55 depending on if they joined before or after April 1997.

The USA can similarly reinstate the Draft (women are included for true equality) and recall veterans to duty.

I also just watched a new video from mark Felton where he detailed how Russia is pulling T62 museum pieces to use and now we get even crazier news.

Russia is now busy pulling 75 year old T54's from cold storage

I think Britain can keep the depleted uranium. You don't even need a 120mm gun to smoke a T 54, even 90mm is a one shot kill

British armourers will be scoring the stores for Charlie Gs and WOMBATs at this rate. I think all the FV432s that mounted Swingfire launchers are long gone, but even they would be of some use against T-55s.

Xi Ping did not agree to build a new gas pipeline

I'd hazard a few reasons:

- Any money handed to Russia is going to get stolen.
- It would take years to build even with no sanctions in place. China has no guarantee Russia would keep to their side of the deal over that time and pipelines need critical components only the West can supply.
- China is aggressively pushing to renewables as they have 100% control - they can do it all within china, no need for pesky foreigners. Also, by the time this is ready their Fossil fuel needs be very different.
- Why sign a deal now when you can screw them for a better one later.

Likely more too, but those are off the top of my head.

I'm not sure what your point is.

That the U.K. could reinstate conscription tomorrow with a single act of Parliament.

Yes... but they've always been able to do that. Parliament could enact any laws they wanted at any time.

He said my children would be conscripted because we are still in the Cold War. But the Cold War didn't bring about conscription.

If anything conscription/national service in the UK ended pretty much at the height of the cold war, IIRC it was announced it would end in the late 50's, and ended by about '65.

My uncles used to talk about it, as two of them were put into service, but the "baby" of the family just missed it.

The UK won't be reintroducing conscription. Even the Tories aren't that stupid. Aside from being incredibly unpopular, it's also completely unnecessary.

Keep poking the bear and it might well become necessary, if generally unpopular.

But given the bellicosity on here I am sure most posters would welcome the chance to give up the day job to potentially die for Ukraine. I'm surprised none seem to be posting from over there already, not merely critiquing operations from afar...
