Who actually cares? Unless he dies next Wednesday, it won't make any difference to anything.

I think all people in power like a legacy. They can't keep their power so they want to build a monument bigger than anyone else's.

Don't know why they bother. History has shown us that most legacies are dismantled in pretty short order.
It is sort of irrelevant, I agree. I was just coming at it from the angle of why did he even start the whole debacle.

He thought it was going to be Crimea again- he knew the west wouldn't like it, but figured that they would have to learn to live with it - it would be too late to do anything about it.

Turns out his army wasn't has good as he thought and the Ukrainians weren't as weak either.

Dunno if it means much but been a huge up-tick in NATO maritime patrol activity around the Baltics, Black Sea and elsewhere the last few days even to the extent of persistent coverage:

Dunno if related to the news article above of disguised sabotage ships.

Its difficult to tell as there are a number of NATO exercises either running or about to run in the region. Though looking at that concentration of coverage. I'd be surprised if this wasnt specifically related to monitoring Russian naval/land equipment movement and communications within Kaliningrad/Baltic fleet.

So what exactly is "woke" about the US advert ???
Probably the fact it doesn't just have 6'2"+ burly men with oiled up muscles and a steely glint in their eyes as they eat raw meat whilst bench pressing a tank, but dares to show women and non Caucasians, and talks about what makes America great and it's ideals not just fighting.

It seems that some people have a real issue with the idea that the military is there to uphold and protect the country, and that it's actually a really good idea to have a mixture of people in it as you need brains just as much (if not more in many instances) as brawn. This is especially true in the parts of the armed forces where you're not likely to be running 20 miles in full kit, but trying to get into the tight spaces on a ship or an aircraft to do repairs*, or spend most of your career watching and repairing the technology that means your fighter jet or soldier on the front line is far more capable than the enemy because they have better information.

The funny thing is that IIRC Russian tankers are traditionally the smallest of the male conscripts (it allows you to build a smaller tank, as you don't need as much space for the crew), and during WW2 it wasn't uncommon from memory for Russian women to be in the armed forces fighting with/near the men in defence of cities or as combat medics etc, and I seem to remember them having several units of female combat pilots some flying massively outdated aircraft to bomb the invading Germans using what could be described as fairly insane tactics (IIRC the "night witches" as they used modified trainers/agricultural biplanes and would throttle right back as they approached, so the engine noise was minimal).

It's also funny talking about it in a thread that is filled with examples of exactly how and why "Western" style military tactics, attitudes and training seems to be working better than the Russian ones.

*Or actually fly them, IIRC women have repeatedly shown themselves to be at as good as men in piloting when given the chance.

It has nothing to do with fighting, it tries to squeeze in every possible ethnic group under the sun for no good reason whatsoever, it's cut like an TikTok video, the message is utterly generic, and it looks like something I would find on a 19 year old's Instagram page. It comes across as an advert for a multicultural inner city youth initiative.

The air force advert is refreshingly sane.

Russia has been on an arrest spree since they arrested that US journalist

A couple days ago issued a warrant for Ukraine's spy chief

And now they've issued a warrant for Christo Grozev, lead journalist and investigator for Bellingcat

If you want to learn about the vatniks of Twitter, Pekka Kallioniemi's Vatnik Soup has got you covered:

One talks from people whom represent different cultures and the other claims they own the sky and you think that's sane!

What a load of tripe. One isn't full of macho bull and it appears people talking and cause they not big white dudes you find is woke. Fek me.

For those too young; the B2 was built as a first strike weapon - with its targets being Russian Silo`s. The part of the triad which is unpredictible is the mobile systems (road and rail). 11 `boomers` in active service, 6 Borei and 5 Deltas (or the other way around cant remember). The Red October `Typhoon` class are sadly all gone now.

I'm not sure I have enough words to explain to you how badly you've twisted what I said, but I guess it doesn't matter because I don't have the inclination either.

Random Ukrainian song...

Great to sing-along while you shoot Orcs.

English translation here.
