That/s about 10km from the currently marked redline in deepstatemap btw. There are three or four towns between them as well which is impressive.

[Armchair General mode="Engaged"]Looking at the map, the AFU moved in from the north west (heading southeast.) Even if pinned for the moment, the AFU will come in from the East and completely cut off about three different towns with Russians in, unless they already retreated. At which point, Staromylnivka will be facing east, north and west forces of AFU. I.e., they are screwed. There is a river in the way though which might complicate things. [Armchair General mode="Disengaged"]

If true... Far too much unverified info floating about. Its going to be that way for some time. People need to just take some inspiration from Kyrylo, lose lips sink ships! OPSEC is key, its a shame everyone wants to be the one to post the latest troop movements/gains/sightings on twitter/reddit etc

Even though it is a complicated multi layer system, the theory is that the Russians don't have enough resources to man the full defensive system.

They put soldiers on the 1st line, but the second line is complete empty and they keep reserves just behind the 3rd line. So once the Ukrainians punch through the 1st line, the Russians have to retreat to the 2nd line and now they are now low on supplies and have dead/injured, so Ukranians move quicker until they reach deeper. The hardest fighting would occur at or near the 3rd lines when the reserves are pushed in. The areas between the lines are massive minefields and in some cases the Russians retreating drive over their own mines

It may have been useful if Ukraine had the ability to eliminate Russian air defence and then drop airborne infantry on the 2nd defence line

Wall Street journal has an article on the patriot shooting down kinzhals

"KYIV, Ukraine Around 3:30 a.m. one recent morning, more than a dozen Russian missiles flashed on the radar screens of the Ukrainian air-defense crew defending this capital city.
The missiles were coursing toward Kyiv, some as fast as six times the speed of sound and heading directly for the crew’s missile battery.

The Ukrainians didn’t panic, their commander said in an interview. They didn’t have time.
But they did have a U.S.-made Patriot System.

The Patriot’s radar detected the missiles, including six Kinzhals, at a distance of about 125 miles. The system’s computer tracked the missiles and launched interceptors, destroying all of them, the last at a distance of about 9 miles—seconds before impact.

Raytheon Technologies, the Patriot’s main contractor, is increasing production to 12 a year and plans to deliver five more to Ukraine, said Chief Executive Greg Hayes.

“We have been very surprised at its effectiveness,” said Hayes of the Patriot. He said Ukraine has tweaked the Patriot’s software to enable it to track and destroy hypersonic missiles flying twice as fast as the Patriot was designed for. Yaremenko said officers in Ukraine’s partner countries have told him, “We are learning from you right now.”

At 125 miles and flying 6 times the speed of sound they had under 2 minutes to react and get interceptors into place (though likely they weren't doing 6 times the speed of sound the whole way).
