This is precisely why a peace deal will never be viable whilst Putin and his lackies are in power. Its all or nothing for both sides.

Unfortunately this doesn't necessarily mean they will get it soon
The US has been allocating draw down aid which can be issued immediately and then they've also been allocating money for future aid - there is a long list of aid that La promised to Ukraine but won't arrive for ages and this might be one of them

Chat on another forum about the Germans being concerned about what could be learned from the captured Leopard 2 tanks. Perhaps if they had not dithered so much on the F-16 (or any other alternative) they may have been able to use those to destroy the stricken tanks. This is probably the reason the M1 Abrams deliveries are so slow.
The US swapped from giving the Ukrainians the M1A2 to the older M1A1 version specifically due to the additional time it was going to take to remove the newer "secret sauce" from the M1A2 vs the much older (in tech terms) M1A1 - Things like armour composition, electronics swapping etc.
1: There's nothing Russia can learn from such old tanks they don't already know, hence why those tanks were sent in the first place instead of something newer.
2: F-16s would have made no difference as the tanks could have been destroyed by Himars or any other Ukrainian artillery in range, they didn't waste the ammo due to point 1.
Random note, Russia had to retire their Soviet space shuttles because they couldn't afford to operate or maintain them, then a few years ago (maybe longer now) one was destroyed when it's hanger collapsed because they couldn't afford to maintain that either. Kind of puts into perspective many of the equipment failures we've seen over the last 18 months
