The guy believes an attack on him is an attack on Russia and is utterly ruthless if necessary to maintain his grip on power... no one ever seems to pay attention to the subtext with Putin.

Doesn't need to, Don knows he's dead the moment Putin is out of the picture and not just because he's an ally but because in Wagner's Russia Chechens are unwelcome.

It is a good point, He isn't popular in Chechnya either - without Putin likely be embroiled in internal turmoil.

I do like the picture the BBC are using on their landing page for all this. 3 lads with their tank, giving a wave having just bought 3 coffees.

I can see where your going with this but that's a bit unfair on Boris given he pretty much singlehandedly led the push for western countries to give Ukraine weapons so it could defend itself.
I agree. Self interest is a very powerful motivator just see Putin/Prigozhin atm.

The entire situation with Prigozhin is hilarious. I hate to be morbid, but can't wait to see how this develops. Any more of this and the CIA will be air-dropping chicken wings and bullets.

It's really weird how little resistance it appears Wagner have faced. Must be major mutiny / reluctance to follow orders in the Russian army and airforce etc if they're resorting to blocking roads with trucks, and apparently unable to actually stop the convoy on its way to Moscow....
Then the main resistance at Moscow looks like some machine guns and lightly armoured vehicles, with a pile of sand if they're lucky...
Then again maybe the trucks blocking the road will actually be effective at disrupting their advance!
Plus all the private jets reported to have been flying out of Moscow make it seem like the leadership know they have a major loyalty / lack of forces crisis (maybe almost everything useful really is tied up in Ukraine, or maybe officers are just being very slow to respond to orders today...) on their hands. Maybe that makes sense of reports of Wagner popularity with the general public are accurate...
So no idea where this is going but what an awesome drama too play out, and really does seem like the Russian state is in panic.
