This was before "Unthinkable" during the last few months of what was WW2; Churchill, Montgomery and Patton wanted to get to Berlin before the Soviets did from the East in an effort to get there first.
I agree on "Unthinkable" there's no danger we could have dislodged them once they were there.

Yeah I would agree I don't think it would have been possible for the US and British Empire to win a conventional war against Russia at the end of WW2, not to mention the sheer war weariness of the general public.

Only way would have been nuclear strikes, or allying with the Germans before they were completely spent (which would also have posed some political difficulties to say the least lol).

I don't think Putin is that concerned about countries already in NATO in terms of soft power. It apparently takes a year to leave NATO and there are already pro-Russia countries inside e.g. Hungary, Montenegro. Easier said than done but he has a lot of influence over there.

It could be that shipping routes are on Putin's mind. He has the North Sea Route sorted but not so much in the South. If he can take Ukraine then move into Hungary, he has willing Slavic friends in Serbia and Montenegro. That would essentially connect Russia to the Adriatic sea and bypass the Turkish straits.

I know did you see them evacuating orphans as well they were kitted out in new clothes just to look really cute as to pull at the heartstrings all the Ruskie trolls were having a field day on twitter calling the Ukrainian's evil its so obvious what the Russians are up to.
