The Russian precision in an urban situation is the infantry. Agreed that the older instances of Russia vs X in urban situations, have tended to be shelling into submission. However Putin will look a little ridiculous to the Russian public if his rescue turns Russian cities into the west-bank decay. Although it would send a signal of "don't **** with me" which resonates in the Russian psyche.

On the whole, I agree - Russians don't do subtle. They don't see the point.

I'm not talking about the infantry I'm talking about the use of non-guided munitions in Russian bombers, their tolerance for civilian casualties in general - this would apply to mortars, artillery etc.. too. It's just generally a different approach to the US/UK. Their infantry won't be operating alone.

For illustration this is Grozny in 1995, it's located within Russia, the inhabitants are/were Russian citizens. They might not initially want that to happen to Kyiv but in a drawn-out conflict that's the risk, if they're happy to do that within Russia, to their own citizens then...

Some random updates:

  • Posters have been put up in DPR controlled areas telling men age 18-55 that they cannot leave the city.
  • In Luhansk men have been rounded up by soldiers and put onto buses, presumably being drafted to go and fight
  • Fighting now reported & verified in Maryinka & Kurakhove which are just west of Donetsk on the outskirts
  • Tanks and artillery moving south in Zlynka (Bryansk) towards the border (20 miles away)

  • Text message from a Ukrainian in Donbass saying russians are going door to door and taking away men, even snatching them off the streets to go and fight

Not sure how you can follow what is going on right now and think a Russian invasion is LESS likely....
 
If anybody is fed up of all the videos just say - I know its not to everyone's liking which is fine :)
 
Blown out of all proportion.
The internet would be rammed with "content" of anything was severely going down right now.

heh, it's not so much not liking it as just not being able to tell if it's even real because you can't see what you hear, anyone can take a video of a street and edit a siren or gunfire over it.

I get where he's coming from, maybe all this is just a show of force from Putin in the hopes that with enough stuff on the borders the West will cave and he'll get what he wants diplomatically, if he doesn't attack tonight with everything in place and Olympics finished then it becomes more obvious

They won't attack in the day, tonight is the most likely time for an attack otherwise see above

What happens now when Russia invade will depend a lot on how much Ukrainians have the will to fight. Considering what will happen to any Ukrainian man and unspeakable things to women then I expect the fight to be extremely intense. Russia will need to undertake a genecide to truly take over the country.

I wondered that, he is extremely cautious about covid. But then so is President Xi Jinping, maybe they know something we don't *puts on tin foil hat* :p
