There are due to be talks with putin, ukraine and macron later.

I suspect that irrespective of the outcome of the talks there will be at least small scale mobilisation in the crimea/donbass region in the next 48 hours.

I'm probably 50% on that.

What happens now when Russia invade will depend a lot on how much Ukrainians have the will to fight. Considering what will happen to any Ukrainian man and unspeakable things to women then I expect the fight to be extremely intense. Russia will need to undertake a genecide to truly take over the country.

They are likely to be a hell of a lot more motivated than the randoms rounded up by Russians/Separatists and told to fight.

Most of the point of announcing this is to undermine Putin's claim that he's doing it in response to something or other; the very act of reporting it impacts the outcome.
