Still doesn't feel like it did most of the 70's and 80's during the Cold War. Probably an age thing but I am not worried or even thinking about this event as it 'feels' like a great big circle hank (or something like that) right now. I have zero idea of course. I have been chatting to my mates, none of us likely to be called up, that if it does go red then we can all have a party at the bottom of my garden and watch the missiles come in. Gonna be ace....then quiet.

Macron assured by Putin that the troops in Belarus will leave as soon as the training is complete…

erm, yeah, that’s the worry. They’ll leave straight for Ukraine!

Trust in Truss to not declare war on Russia.
What could go wrong.
:p

In terms of military technology, are the Russians quite strong compared with NATO/US etc?

I am getting quite worried about it all. :(
No not at all aside from the obvious nukes. Against Ukraine they will be but less so since the amount of support was given to them. Russia has about the same military budget as UK. What they have is a larger amount of forces but it only takes a few European countries to come together and it’s not enough. The killing efficiency of NATO will be far higher (I.e. Russian attrition will be very high).

Going to be catasrophic if it kicks off I really hope there isnt mass killing of civilians.

Seems like it all setup for the cruise missiles to come in off the sea shock and awe style to start like Iraq.

As a whole, no.
They have some nice tech with regards to jamming technology, no one actually knows how good the amazeballs s-500 system is or thier much vaunted hypersonic super duper missiles.
They have the t-14 but can't afford them really like much of thier top tier stuff.

They have craploads of artillery and older tanks though.

What they do have are lots of nukes and submarines, how good thier subs are compared to modern western subs remains to be seen really, even thier new subs are designs from a good 20 ish years now that we're put on hold .

In terms of a world war, I don't think that's really a possibility. Ukraine will just get steamrolled and that will be that, we'll talk about sanctions but long term they won't amount to much.

No, they wouldnt really stand a chance agains the whole of Nato in a conventional war.

Trouble is they have loads of nukes so a conventional war isnt really a reality
