Interesting, the tension is increasing. I understand that Putin wants to force Minks implementation and wants the US and the EU to pressure Ukraine into federalisation but as we saw from public statements this is not happening, the US does not even mention Minks agreements.

If Minks agreement will not go through then...then what. That's the question, what will Russia do to secure Ukraine as a neutral buffer. I do not understand how invading further or taking Kyiv achieves this strategic goal.

Anybody has any thoughts why would they take Kyiv (as US intelligence says) considering long term Ukraine will revert back to being independent and pursue NATO ascension anyway?

Apparently the border checkpoint thing is the same excuse Germany used for invading Poland.

Do I detect some military general having a laugh based on the knowledge of history? I'd expect there to be more checkpoints, and realistically a checkpoint isn't going to stop an army. Therefore it's more symbolic of breaking the boarder.

Given the largest majority in the remaining area are Ukrainian nationality, I agree there will always be pressure in the same way areas in Spain have an uneasy standoff with Madrid. The question is - if the military in the region report into Russia and that is kept pure. Then 'democratic' elections to vote Putin will continue as they do in the rest of Russia.

or maybe they are just training exercises like he said and everybody else is just behaving like idiots.

sigh... you don't mobilise 75% of all your military assets, completely encircle a neighbor you've recently annexed a large area of land from and get to claim it's just a 'training' exercise. That's just naive. Regardless of whether they go in or not.

B52 and a tanker over Poland at the moment. Tyson11.

edit Also Yank1 and Yank2 watching the north of Kaliningrad and Belarus. CL60 is watching the whole west edge of Belarus with Poland also.

Why not, surely its not for you to dictate how Russia carries out its training exercises.

Imagine being so stupid, that you would believe that Ukraine are intentionally picking a fight/making incursions into Russia, whilst Russia has 75% of their military surrounding them, and that it is them being the aggressors.

Are these false flag type attacks/reports just for the terminally brain dead Russian populace who will believe anything?

Spicy developments.

Five Ukrainian soldiers were killed and no Russian servicemen were injured during the firefight, they reported. The ministry added that during the attack, two combat vehicles belonging to Kiev’s armed forces crossed into Russian territory in an attempt to rescue the alleged saboteurs. Both vehicles are said to have been destroyed.

Responding to the reports of the attack, Ukraine’s military has said that Moscow’s claims of an attempted incursion by saboteurs are false.
