Orban is trying to conduct an EU Foreign Policy blindside because he wants the 30 odd billion euros currently being held back by the EU because his government is corrupt and judges are in his party's back pocket. I suspect most of the Republicans he meets can't even pinpoint Hungary on a map. The meeting will be an echo chamber of morons agreeing with each other.

So, chap is worried he’ll be “disappeared” again, like has happened for past 3 months… Maybe disappeared means something I don’t fully understand, but if I was worrying for my life, the last place on earth I would reveal my intentions would be Twitter. Musk should arrange for his rescue as he seems to lack the capacity to look after himself and wandering around an active war zone probably isn’t the best place for practicing care in the community.
 
So with a Democrat President, and a Democrat majority Senate, is it the actually the Republican controlled Congress which is really in control of the US efforts to support Ukraine?

That seems to be the gist of the pages and pages of anti-Republican sentiment but is that factual, I honestly don't know as I'm no expert on Congress?

The Senate and House control the purse strings. The president doesn't. A split Congress can lead to the deadlock we are seeing now.
 
Yes the Republicans in Congress are holding up the aid. It is a triple package of aid to Taiwan, Israel and Ukraine but for some reason (guess why) they are complaining about the Ukraine part. They are also using it as a bargaining chip on illegal immigration to get Biden to prevent Mexicans coming through the southern border ("small boat syndrome").

Meantime some commentators are saying Ukraine could fall in a matter of weeks without more US aid, which essentially costs the US taxpayer nothing.
 
Orban also putting in the overtime for Russia... (additional to what was posted above).

Honestly time we started considering people like this traitors quite frankly as in the long run their efforts aren't going to just impact Ukraine but also potentially have significant ramifications for the peace and security of the wider world - we've already seen some of the cracks.

Not looking good for Ukraine anymore. I guess Putin might end up being right about the West's resolve (and in particular the US). Right now it looks quite likely that they will abandon Ukraine in the near future; if not this time, next time.

The question of whether Turkey will let them through to the Black Sea doesn't seem to have been answered. They are warships, but I'd assume not any real offensive capability.

I find it exceptionally difficult to see how Europe and the US can sit back and not do anything to prevent Ukraine slogging this out alone… and the consequences which follow.

It’s one thing to play a bit of politics. But the reality is different matter.

The big problem is the US and the MAGA wing of the Republican Party that is both pro Putin/Russia and just wants the opposite of what Biden is doing. If the US was fully behind Ukraine, Europe would get dragged along. I hope Russia doesn't get ideas beyond Ukraine but I wouldn't be surprised if the US/Europe fold.

Looking at it we seem to see no difficulty at all in seeing Ukraine fold...

We still have storm shadows and God knows what that will never be used other than on some tin pot pick up truck with jihadis riding along.

We have nuclear deterant for Russia/China/Iran/NK.

Oban and MAGA also have been his trump...cards.
