'Ukrainian men between the ages of 25 and 60 living abroad will be expected to report for military service, Defence Minister Rustem Umerov says.

He describes this as an "invitation" - but suggests there would be sanctions against anyone who did not comply.

"We are still discussing what should happen if they don't come voluntarily," he says in an interview with German media.

President Zelensky said in his end-of-year news conference on Tuesday that 450,000 - 500,000 new soldiers were needed - but how this could be achieved was a "sensitive issue".

In November, the Austrian newspaper Express quoted EU agency Eurostat as saying some 650,000 Ukrainian men of military age had left the country for the EU since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion - of whom nearly 200,000 were in Germany.'

I would be happy for my country to pay them to leave Switzerland and go back to be heroes for democracy (tm). I think its their solemn duty to do so.

Am I doing it right?

lol

"you're allowed to be gay" but don't complain to the police when you're beaten to a pulp and the police stand by and offer advice on how best to do it.

IIRC Russia has basically banned any public indications of homosexuality for years, and police at best will do nothing if you're beaten up for being (or suspected of being) gay.

How are you not aware of this, it's been a known problem for years, especially things like lesbians getting raped by the gay bashers and the police shrugging it of.
You’re taking to Roar, he isn’t aware of anything in his little world

Extra modern aircraft with capabilities to hit further and long range munitions, of an amount that can actually make an impact, would help to reduce Russian combat power massively.
More modern tanks other than 12-30 also.

Am I wrong.
I still think they would have needed the men, for all the 'lol Russian dead' in the thread Ukraine is obviously bleeding out too.

Nah, because Switzerland only take money or gold ,usually from people like Hitler and Putin , fat chance of giving money to others, especially for a good cause.

Of course he is aware of it.

It's just our resident troll being troll-like.

He is entirely incapable of an honest debate in good faith.

It is, but how much is due to having insufficient munitions and weapons... especially ones than eclipse the Russian systems.

We saw the attack choppers wrecking havoc on the Ukrainian offensive.

Hitting staging points, airfields, c&c you name it, vast majority are untouchable by Ukraine unfortunately, well enough to make a real difference anywho.

Cluster strike vids and Himras launches etc are getting thin on the ground now.

You are allowed to be gay in Russia, you're even allowed to be gay and be in the military, gay men are allowed to give blood, age of consent for same sex couples is 16 the same as it is for straight couples.
You're allowed to do lots of things in Russia just don't count on being alive for long. You may accidentally fall off a balcony, have a plane your on shot out of the sky, or have an unexplained bout of novichok poisoning.

It obviously suits the west to keep the war bubbling along for a while yet. Eventually it will end with old men round a table talking, as pretty much all wars do.

Right, I'm not saying Russia doesn't have archaic views on homosexuality which stem from their orthodox Christian views, combined with a lot of outdated attitudes that were still pretty popular here in the 80s and 90s, but that wasn't the argument. It simply isn't illegal to be gay, the Police aren't going to break down your door.

By the way, I don't think you'll find many of the Ukrainian soldiers waving rainbow flags either, they will have largely similar views culturally to Russia, even if their government is taking a more progressive approach to appease the EU.

Oh, oops, what's this from 2018

Perhaps read beyond the headline and opening paragraphs.
'Outlaw' was an appropriate term to use.

You understand the difference between someone being gay and a club branding itself with rainbow flags, right? It isn't illegal to be gay, it's illegal promote homosexuality. They have traditional views, they are actually more progressive than most Muslim countries, which rarely get called out for this type of thing.

If you want to call Russia out for something, there's plenty of things, but it isn't illegal to be gay.

Just punishable. That's a relief.

They probably would be more progressive if they didn't see the state of some of the things going on in American schools, having done a course at work yesterday that included the word "microaggressions" and avoiding the use of "gendered language" like 'manpower', I personally don't blame them at all. We'll be living in the world shown in Demolition Man soon in the West, at which point I'll move to Russia for a rat burger and a beer. Anyway, enough off topic discussion, it's factually correct that being gay isn't illegal, the laws were clear to me when I looked into it when they hosted the World Cup. If you want to complain about Russian corruption in sport I'm right alongside you.

As I said re read, but go beyond the headline and opening paragraph.

Summary:
Just passing laws to piecemeal criminalize and outlaw as many aspects of living life while being gay.

So you can be gay, but just don't mention being gay, do anything gay related, or you know just don't be gay.

Yes, you can be gay in Russia, it is not illegal. I didn't say anything more than that. I don't agree with their laws, but 2 men or women can live together privately and no one is going to come around and arrest them. A lot of our laws in the West have only improved in the last 20-40 years, yet for some reason you're already holding Russia to the same standards as us. There's far worse going on in the world to LGBT people than not being allowed a gay pride festival in Moscow.

Hey, money is money, given for a good cause. I say a lot of us would happily give money for them to leave. Judging by the cars they drive I doubt they need the money but its okay.

Oh, And your country was happy to sign an agreement with us recently. ;)
