Problem is after the election in April Putin will embark on a massive mobilisation (if they can equip the recruits) and it will all probably be over by the end of the year.
What will be over? You think Russia will instantly win with a mobilisation?

The quality of the mobilisation is what counts not the quantity.

What we do know is they will be badly trained, given a gun if they have enough and sent to front lines to be meat for the grinder.

It's Russia's whole problem, send waves of poorly trained conscripts and they don't care about the 12 to 1 ratio loss because they can sacrifice 12 men as long as they get 1 in return because they have the numbers on their side even at 12 to 1.

In reality the mobilisation wont make a difference because it will still just remain stalemate.

Russia have already lost more men than they started with, those were the so called professional soldiers, their top guys like the Spetznaz, feared thoughout the world wiped out in the first month or two of the war.

Don't worry thought their ace up their sleeve, the feared Chechnya, nobody can beat them right? Wrong , their entire armoured convoy, wiped out again early on in the war, where are they now?

Russias reality now is to rely very heavily on North Korea for badly produced shells in huge numbers and China to secretly supply them with ammunition, Iran for missiles and drones. Russia were finished a long time ago. Like Ukraine they rely on friendly countries.

Whos supplies will run out first? Will BRICS countries win over NATO, for me this war all boils down to who can keep the weapons flowing, and for how long.

Sadly time is on Russias side, if Trump wins and becomes president again then Ukraine lose the USA as an ally and thats their biggest threat, Trump.

Give it a rest aside from Nukes Russia couldn't fend off Poland never mind Nato.

Right now, but it may be 1930s like in that the threat of Russia is ignored or underestimated allowing them to rebuild like Germany, albeit that is harder in these days of modern surveillance systems.

Oh dear, how sad, nevermind .

Edit: Ack! Ukrainians on board? Wait and see.

Edit2: Claim it was carrying Ukrainian prisoner's is Moscow's claim, shame BBC!

Ukraine say it was carrying S300 missiles. Who are we to believe?

Tobia Ellwood describes the situation as being like 1939. Worrying times for the world really.

One of the problems is this situation is showing Russia they less and less have to abide by Western rules, and they have less and less to lose and that makes them dangerous. In a race to rearm all bets are off really as we've seen it takes a lot for the West to recognise and respond to the danger proportionally.

Russia will have lost a lot of men, but they'll also gain some who'll become experienced veterans, there is no substitute for real combat experience and what they can pass on in training. One of the reasons the UK armed forces have been amongst if not the best over the years as we've had a lot of real experience to lean on.

Albeit Russia doesn't tend to value training very highly.

Full video out now showing it going down. 20 seconds in it pans up to a smoke cloud in the sky, deffo hit by a SAM.

Belgorod was under air raid alert 40 mins pior so Russian air defence was also alert.

I think Russian's have done another funny .

Possibly why they are saying Ukrainian prisoners were on board, deflection and limiting the impact.

The real question is; how much war stock does the UK actually have left to fight anyone?

Apparently ~620 out of 708 Warrior armoured vehicles are operational but that is intended to decline by 100 this year, 157 out of 227 operational Challenger 2 tanks, etc. not terrible but not ideal either. What could actually be fielded without at least a months prep though is likely less than half those numbers :s
