Ukraine Invasion - Please do not post videos showing attacks/similar

We need to find a way to get to the negotiation table.

It might need NATO/European countries to set a deadline for Russia to withdraw back to its border. Similarly how we did with the Nazis in WW2 with Poland.

This current situation is unsustainable. I suspect it's designed to drain Russian resources. Though it is doing it at the expense of Ukrainian lives.

As long as the Ukrainians as a whole are willing to provide the boots on the ground the rest of Europe should be pulling their weight and supplying as much gear as possible.

Collectively its quite clear that it's the gear that's the current limiting factor for the Ukrainians ability to resist the Russians.

There's is no sensible negotiations with people like Putin, he's never going to 'voluntarily' withdraw any of the countries forces.

If it wasn't for the Nukes we should be raining hell down on every Russian soldier and city until they capitulate and Putin is dead in a ditch or on the way to the Hague in chains.

Given the nukes we should be doing all we reasonably can to pursue a policy of making sure the Ukrainians can continue to punish the Russians heavily for every inch they try to take or hold onto in Ukraine.

Havnt seen anything on them for ages used to do big attacks but it all gone quiet.

Probably the problem is Russia is more ready for them now and a sizeable cross-border force would encounter a much more organised response much quicker (and wouldn't surprise me if Ukraine asked them to reign it in a bit).

Maybe they still don't see it that way - the invasion kicked off with the notion they'd mostly be warmly welcomed by the majority of the population once a "bad" minority had been dealt with, even now I'm not sure the reality has really percolated through to those at the top.

Beyond that depends on Putin's intentions, they may assume they can keep the population in check through brutal suppression and conscripting abled bodied males into forced labour and/or the military. The occupation of various countries by the USSR took that form with 10s or even 100s of thousands killed to try and maintain order, Putin isn't against resorting to those kind of measures.

Well, Russia definitely doesn't care what the West thinks, but brutal suppression and conscripting people into forced labour would be a hard sell to a lot of countries who are more neutral towards the conflict like China and India. They obviously do somewhat care about maintaining positive international relationships, even if not with the West. For that reason I don't think that would happen. The USSR at the time didn't really need to appease basically anyone.

Sorry did you just mention China and India in context of good labour conditions :o

Not seen any notifications but assume Russia is expected to carry out strikes tonight given the stuff NATO has out monitoring.

Just seen/read this rather good takedown of Tucker's "interview"

"It's good to hear the story from both sides"

In this case, the other side is a genocidal warmonger who even killed hundreds of his own people to justify a war in Chechnya. Putin can provide his perspective at the Hague.

"Tucker is a journalist, let him do his job"

Tucker is a propagandist who is also extremely biased: In 2019, he said that "We should probably take the side of Russia if we have to choose between Russia and Ukraine"

"The US is not at war with Russia"

Then why does the Kremlin call it a NATO proxy war?

"Zelenskyy banned opposing media"

Ukraine banned Medvedchuk's - a personal friend of Putin's - TV channels that spread pro-Kremlin propaganda. He also banned Serhiy Liovochkin's website that was even worse than Medvedchuk's channels.

Also, Russia invaded Ukraine.

"I want to hear what his [Putin's] interests are from his own mouth"

They're not a secret, you can read them from his 2021 revisionist and genocidal essay "On the Historical Unity of Russians and Ukrainians"

"I've always wanted to see a Putin interview because it never happens"

Putin has been interviewed many times. For example, by Larry King in 2000, Barbara Walters in 2001, his lapdog Oliver Stone in 2015-2017, Megyn Kelly and @ArminWolfin 2018, and Keir Simmons in 2021

In all of them, Putin evades the difficult questions, rewrites history to fit the Kremlin's narrative, and instead blames the West for everything. Wolf was one of the few who actually challenged him, see the interview with English captions below.

Finally, there is absolutely no media freedom in Russia and their World Press Freedom Index is one of the worst in the whole world.

Tucker is such a big liar that the Kremlin has had to correct him

Tucker claimed that western journalists are too scared to interview Putin and that's why no one has done an interview in 2 years

The Kremlin has come out and said Tucker is lying, this statement is not true, the Kremlin revealed that Western journalists submit several applications per week to interview Putin but for two years all have been declined, the Kremlin goes on to say the only reason they approved Tucker's request is because he has a large influential audience and because Tucker is pro Russia and will present a pro Russian view to his audience

Latvia is gearing up. Really putting the West to shame here.

For reference - they needed 700 people, 500 volunteered, 200 were conscripted by lottery (This is against a population of 1.8M people). It's a good first step but the Baltic states will never be able to defend themselves against Russia unless the vast bulk of the military force to do so comes from outside.

Oh that's true, this will achieve nothing in real terms because Latvia is little more than a speed bump to Russia. I just admire the tenacity.

And like say our giving Challengers to Ukraine, the amount of MBTs we gave was irrelevant in the grand scale of things but the message, intent and how that spurred other countries into action was the important part.

My fear is that we in the West would not take action on Article 5, we just seem so afraid of triggering a larger war. It is crazy to be honest, if we did not protect latvia then the whole of Nato becomes pointless.
I don't think NATO would step up for an attack (stray missiles, airspace incursions etc) but for a full on invasion I don't doubt there would be a reaction. Just a lot of people on here want their to be a nuclear strike because a Russian satellite is over a nato country.

Difficult to say - it's possible not all Nato members would respond to an attack (looking at the U.S. under Trump). Poland, the U.K and Finland definitely would in my opinion and France/Germany/Spain most likely would.

I believe there is a Nato force in the Baltics of about 40K men and women at the moment, so hopefully that telegraphs our intentions to Russia.

The question becomes, if Putin throws as much at taking the Baltics as he has at Ukraine, could we successfully defend them? Probably, but it's worth pointing out that the appetite for significant loss of life in any conflict is much much lower amongst the nations that would be tasked with defending.

Still carrying out sporadic sabotage missions into Russia but nothing like previous action.
Like this one from yesterday?

ICBM and Iskandar missile production is now kaput.
