Funny how people jump on this sort of stuff as an "ahaha!! GOTCHA!" - when in this specific example it was clearly a mistake not a bare-faced lie - he probably meant grandfather and the whole grandfather-Zelensky thing is pretty well documented.
Heck, for all we know even the translator could have got this wrong in the moment because Father and Grandfather don't sound entirely dissimilar when talking fast (at least for a westerner like me). That translator had his work cut out for sure.
OAP 3-way fight...Make it like the WWE and Trump could come in with a clothesline half way through.
It's very likely that Putin was just mistaken, but 'отец' and 'Дед' sound nothing alike in Russian. You can ask Google to pronounce them, you'll immediately hear that the grunting noises are completely different.
Ukrainian telegram claims that today for the first time Russia launched a Zircon hypersonic anti ship missile at Ukraine in a land attack (this missile has a land attack mode as claimed by Russia) and they claim to have shot it down too.
Russia claims the Zircon is a scramjet hypersonic ballistic missile that travels at up to Mach 9 and has a range of 1000km. The missile entered Russian service 2 years ago and costs $10 million per unit
Doesn’t matter about speed…
If you can see it, you can calculate its trajectory…
If you can see it trajectory you can fill a space it’s going to fly through with debris…
It’s why Russia is struggling with the storm shadow. Their radars can’t see them and when they turn them on they get targeted by asrams

So apparently the US have outright said no to negotiations.
Seems a shame they don’t want to at least ‘try’ - surely that’s the first step toward any sort of peace no matter how remote the chances of achieving it are on the first attempt.
I do understand the reluctance and complete distrust of the other side but someone has got to start somewhere?
Russia clearly aren’t going anywhere and Ukraine aren’t going to stop defending themselves either so surely actual dialogue would help towards an end of the continual and tragic loss of human life
There was reports a week or two back of T-54s being seen on the back of trains going to the front.Seen this on another form, anyone know if we can corroborate this? Do the Russians reuse tank number?
(Left the posters name in it to give them credit)
Russia bring out a little bit of history maybe.
My best friend is a fluent Russian speaker (he and his wife communicate in Russian) and he said the translator did a pretty good job and that this was just a mistake by Putin. (The word for "Father" and "Grandfather" are not really close in Russian)I think FirebarUK meant the other way around - that the translator maybe didn't know the correct word for grandfather in English or mixed it up in quickly trying to translate. Sometimes between the two languages there isn't a direct translation especially for some of the more archaic phrasing.

This isnt US's place to say yes or no! They can support Ukrainian decisions or disagree if they so wish. Ultimately its Ukraine/Russia who will decide if it wants to push for negotiations. They are the primary parties in this conflict, other nations can support or withdraw support, they can try influence and apply pressure diplomatically but as much as they might like to think they do, they dont dictate the outcome unless they decide they want to join in the fun and games...So apparently the US have outright said no to negotiations.
