Exactly why we should have added Ukraine into NATO.
 
Russia will be allowed to keep the region's it has just taken, same as the Crimea. They will call a halt to the expansion and suck up the financial impact as the reality is it won't hurt the top dogs one bit. As the halt of expansion will be the bargaining chip.

Or we could just send in the Gurkha's and really **** them up. For all it's bluster Russian troops have very little moral and long protracted campaign is something Russia can't win unless that drop a tactical Nuke then the world we really will be on edge.
 
Just had a dumb thought about the idea that Russia could use a previously Ukrainian SSR stationed nuclear warhead on Donetsk or Luhansk, imply that Ukraine did it with a 'secret' stockpile hidden away whilst the Budapest agreement was being signed and use the shock as cover to maybe make the West back off and/or support the usage of tactical nukes to effectively nullify any Ukrainian forces.

It's ridiculous right?

Very very very doubtful.
I would think any use of nuclear/chemical/biological weapons would cross the line and do the opposite, it be the trigger a much much stronger western response.
