In truth very little the west can do about it. We are not going to impose sanctions which cripple our supply of gas and neither America or NATO have even remotely mentioned the possibility of military intervention, as we know where that would end. (We wouldn't be worrying about the gas supply). Maybe if Putin was knocking on the door of former East Germany, but probably not even then So basically all we can do is offer hot air and rhetoric.

I can't see that happening though as the US have already said there is zero chance of them deploying any units in front of Russian troops. Also I can see a lot of EU NATO members saying the same thing. NATO literally have nothing to gain by deploying. They could up the ante by dumping multiple units into member countries on the borders to secure them, which they are well within their rights to do.

We should have declared war in '38. When Poland attacked Czechoslovakia.

Don't remember my Nan being worried about Russian invasion. Might be ******* on your behalf. Is the UK missing a war? it must be 12 months since Afganistan ended? All that expensive kit doing nothing.
 
Look at the share prices of Russia's banks. Ouch.

Their economy is just going to collapse if this goes on for long. They won't be able to buy food let alone fight a massive war.

Putin knows he can pretty much do what he wants and isn't really afraid of these fairly weak sanctions.

Sadly, no country cares that much about Ukraine, and Ukraine is not a NATO country so doesn't qualify for our protection at a military level.

Putin isn't going to touch a NATO country, so I suspect it'll stop there. If somehow Poland came under threat then we might be looking at a WW3 scenario unfolding, but that's a long way from where we are now.

It's a sad situation for Ukraine really, they will get steamrolled so ought to start negotiating with Russia on some level if they can.
 
Just heartbreaking speaking to some of my Ukrainian friends today. Many of them with family members ready to fight…and we know the outcome of that. More than anything our own leaders have failed us by financing Russia for years.

How do you negotiate with a leader that just said Ukraine was a mistake and shouldn't exist ?

Would you be calling for Israel to negotiate with Iran if they were in same position as Russia ?

We all know how this is going to end if more assistance isn't given and West realises Russia cares not for diplomacy, it's going to be the end of a country

I have no idea, maybe it's too late now. Ukraine talking about joining NATO (when they know they can't) and starting a nuclear programme is not really helping matters.
