Hmm so your suggestion is instead of 15 years of pain and let's not forget freedom of movement and trade they should remain russia's bitch with outdated factories, infrastructure and working conditions? Is this your answer?

Seriously?

This is not some academic exercise taken in isolation. You have to consider where the world is at the moment and what would be best for the country NOW.

Like many employees in this country when forced with employers demands that they take a substantial cut in wages over the last five years they had had to do it. Russia's deal might not be in Ukraines long term interest but it was the only deal on the table.
As for the rest of your post, if the IMF give funds then they will be their 'bitch' which as America is the largest lender to the IMF means America's 'bitch'.

Good to see everyone here is a fricking expert on Ukraine now. The usual rubbish being spouted is beyond the pale.

At the time I visited which was around 2009, the cleaner in UK earned around 800 pounds while teacher in LT earned equivalent of 400 pounds, this is monthly. I cant say what about now, but I still dont think teachers in LT earn same or more than cleaners in UK....

You also cant forget that before 2004, EU actually and UK especially didnt have people to fulfill the low end jobs, so the influx of immigrants who agreed to manual labour for cheap hourly wage was welcomed by employers. No need to go all emotional about this, this is a fact.

This is no more the case, Before 2004 there were NONE post soviet or warsaw pact countries within EU.... As I say again, even those countries who joined in 2004 are not in great shape, the ones who joined recently have no chance and Ukraine is just hopeless.

Let me get this straight... You are comparing former soviet republics which had Third World living standards in 1989, with queues and daily/weekly food ratios, with the UK, one of the most advanced countries on the entire bloody Planet? If you want to know how the Baltic states are doing, compare their progress with the progress of other developing nations such as those located in Central/South America, Asia and Africa, including - ironically - Mother Russia. Do that and then come here to say those countries are not in great shape.

The countries that joined recently have no chance? No chance to do what exactly? Romania, in example, had the highest growth in the EU in 2013 and one of the lowest levels of debt and unemployment.

Just a speculative, shot in the dark, but couldn't there be a bit of leverage done here with respect to Ukraine & Russia, and Syria & Russia. With Russia starting to spout "massive violations of human rights in Ukraine", could there not be some sort of room for some sort of negotiation given the "beyond all reasonable doubt" human rights violations" in Syria?

Those things are done sometimes but never in public so if it happens, we won't hear about it any time soon.

The problem with opinions is that every a** has one!

Erm, are they actually Russians? I haven't seen a news article actually say the people who stormed the parliament building and the airport are Russian.

Maybe they are Ukrainians who tripped, fell and accidentally landed on military uniforms, complete with automatic rifles and Russian flags.

They are Crimean militia, basically they identify as being Russian rather than Ukranian because their region used to be in Russia but was put under the control of the Ukrainian SSR government during the cold war and never given back when the USSR fell.

When the dust settles Crimea is going to end up either independent or rejoining Russia, the only question is will it's departure from Ukraine go down like the dissolution of Czechoslovakia or like Yugoslavia.

In what wonder-land do you live may I ask??? We cant even turn Greece,Spain,Ireland,Portugal,Baltics into prosperous economies how the hell Ukraine is going to turn into one?? They are not even offered membership!

Eastern Europe has done very well out of EU membership: Compare the GDP of Poland to Ukraine and you'll see just how well. Both had similar starting points, but Polands is now twice as large.

UK is a country with barely any industries left and yet we will probably have referendum soon to leave the EU because it is becoming not financially beneficial anymore.... I just.... facepalm

The UK and The Ukraine are in very different positions. The Ukraine would benefit immensely from EU membership. The UK doesn't really get any benefit because we're paying a lot of money into the system to help develop Eastern Europe.

Then the corruption, corruption has gone nowhere in Greece! It even got worse, since more people want to get hands on the EU money that is being injected.

It will take some time for Greece and southern Europe as a whole to go through a process of change. They don't benefit from the EURO but they DO benefit from EU membership.

So did the home guard, a militia isn't something that's ill equipped it's something staffed by civilians.

Just because third world militias look like generic idiots toting AK47's doesn't mean they all do, our Territorial Army is technically a militia.

And if our Territorial Army was in the Crimea right now without the permission of the Ukrainian authorities it would still be an invasion.
