I think now there can be little doubt that a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine is underway. The question I have is where will the Russian troops halt - Crimea? the Russian speaking part of Ukraine or will they go all the way to the Polish border and re-instate Yanukovych as president-for-life?

P.S. wonder how Edward Snowden is feeling right now? Hope he's happy at the freedom and civil liberties being delivered to the people of Ukraine by his hosts.

And if our Territorial Army was in the Crimea right now without the permission of the Ukrainian authorities it would still be an invasion.

But those guys live in the Crimea just as their ancestors have for hundreds of years, as I said previously on the other side of Ukraine you have Moldova and Transnistria who also have sizable Russian minorities.

We now have to my knowledge a Chechenia terrorist and two long term convicted nazi gang leaders in the new Ukrainian govt.

Correct, however the Crimean militia being in the Crimean is not, see the difference? It's just the same as the North Wales Reserve Forces being in Wales.

Imagine if people of England elected the BNP as majority party and then the Welsh Reserves said "nope" and took over Wales. It's basically the same thing, the new Ukrainian government is moving away from Russia and towards the EU and the people of Crimea want none of it.

I suppose it's Ukrainian militia who are flying these helicopters from Russia into Ukraine too.

This is incorrect. The TA is integrated in the British Army, making them professional (albeit part-time) soldiers.

Actually it's correct, you can't be a part time professional soldier, the terms are exclusive. The TA being civilians who train in their spare time to support the regular army if needed fall under the definition of a militia which "generally refers to an army or other fighting force that is composed of non-professional fighters; citizens of a nation or subjects of a state or government that can be called upon to enter a combat situation, as opposed to a professional force of regular, full-time soldiers.".

I'm trying to get him to tell everyone where they are all wrong as he mentioned in his previous post, I'm interested in what it is he has to say.

Just to add to the spate of nugatory posts in this thread, I think oulton's position is that he's happy being ignorant and hates those who aren't or seek to be less so.

In other words, you are unable to back up your claims. Fair enough, although it would've been easier if you had said so from the start. :)

That was what the acronym for I can't recall at the moment at the end of my statement was for, are you a state agent ir right wing activist you seem very worked up?

I happen to be a rabid leftist atheist if you must know, which has nothing to do with the issue of Russia currently preparing an invasion at the border of the EU.

Furthermore, I'm sure that if I claimed the Easter Bunny joined the new Ukrainian Govt, you wouldn't be satisfied with a source such as www.google.com.

Looks like Russia is just protecting its navy and other military assets in the region due to the ukranian defence force, which is meant to do it for them, pretty much falling apart and being leaderless. I don't see the problem with that either :S

No, they are not exclusive. If you are a part time doctor, medicine is your profession. Your status does not change because of the number of hours you practice medicine.

'Professional' has a couple of definitions, but none of them relate to the number of hours you commit to something. In the context of our military, the 'professional' definition is that they are volunteers who PAID to be soldiers, rather than conscripts.

They do not fall under the definition of 'militia' at all. In fact, they aren't even called the TA any more, they are called 'The Army Reserve', the implication being that these men and women are soldiers who happen to be in reserve.
