you need to have your system running in ahci mode to install the drivers. if your running in IDE mode, then you dont need the drivers anyway.

Yep, thats what the message said. I've got it running in AHCI mode (Vista), but still could not install them. Have you/anyone else managed to install them?
 
I'm considering purchasing one of these laptops but there has been much talk about dead pixels not being guaranteed.... Surely if it arrives with dead pixels and we are not happy we can simply return it within 7 days under the distance selling regulations?

Mine had 2 stuck pixels, both red and to the left of the screen, shows up quite badly on black backgrounds :(

Other than that it's an awesome bit of kit! I was very impressed!
 
So why didn't you return it? I know for a fact if I pay £1500 for a laptop (which is the spec I am considering) I do not expect it to come with a duff screen!

Well to be honest with you I was very concerned about the dead pixes my self as you will see in some of my early posts. As I was unable to find a laptop with similar high spec at a similar price I just ordered it knowing the risks. Even though I have the dead pixes I’ve still no regrets.

To be fair the Laptop was for my wife doing college work, if I use it I connect to my Sony Bravia 40” though the HDMI connection in the back ;-) so it’s not that much of a problem for me.
 
Speaking of the screens I did a hardware calibration of mine a few days ago, used an Eye-One Display 2 colorimeter with iMatch software. Calibrated to a luminance of 90 (recommended for laptops) as opposed to 120 for desktop lcds.

The before and after results are significantly different to be noticeable but not unpleasantly so. But to be honest unless you are doing colour critical work it wouldn't matter a great deal and you would just set it to what is comfortable for you. This display wasn't too bad at all when compared to how far out some are at their default, especially some desktop monitors.

I'm very tempted by this laptop, however before seeing this thread I emailed in to OCuk to ask if the RAM was DDR2 or 3 the reply was that it is DDR2. Yet there's a lot of mention in this thread that the ram is DDR3?

Could someone help me out here, I'm confused! Thanks :)
 
I'm astonished by the battery life of my Ultima Mobile.

I ran it for three and a half hours last night on the battery whilst using the following before it died:

- MSN
- Skype
- Firefox (probably 4/5 with many tabs)
- Winamp
- Football Manager 2009
- WiFi
- Microsoft Word

It's a beast! Just formatted and redone my entire system and it's lightning.
 
Chapple - how do you manage that? are your specs different to mine? (spec on sig)
What OS are you using?

I only seem to get 2hrs on power saver!

Ivan - I believe Clevo do not recommend the extreme or quad CPU's in the 15" chasis.
Only 35w cpu's and under, its a shame as I wanted to put a quad in :(
 
Hi, All my GFX have gone funny on my desktop, I’ve got like tiny flashing pixels on my desktop wallpaper, also in some windows I have like a flashing distorted graphics a bit like that of the Nintendo wii on the standard cheap connection and the shut down screen on Vista is full of distorted flashing pixels… anyone have any ideas it all seemed to happen after shutting down crisis and shutting down the PC it installed thee windows updates and has never been right since.

Just tried a re store point back a few days to see if this fixes the problem but it’s not worked, can anyone help?

Whats the graphic performance like on the 17" version, does the 9800m have enough @ 1920x1200 for any of the latest games?

Im also in the market and the only thing thats holding me back is this single question

Apparently, the bottom cover comes off, which gives access to all major components, however, I can't confirm this as I haven't opened mine up.
(Also, I think it voids your warranty if you were to open it up)
