I think he doesn't cope with pressure or expectation of the team very well. In 2007 he was in an underperforming Renault and outscored the Experienced Fisichella, and finished ahead of him in every race from Canada onwards.He'd [Kovalainen] make a decent No.2 driver.
Just dont expect anything special from him.
I will admit he was lacklustre in the McLaren, but I feel that was more due to the team being gravitated around Hamilton and as I mentioned, the teams expectation of results.
He destroyed every team mate he had at Caterham with the pressure off. Again this weekend, no one is really expecting him to do well as he's jumping in an unfamiliar car and he's keeping pace with Grosjean very well.
He certainly has the one lap speed, although his long run pace is ~0.6 off, but I'd imagine that is simply due to not being used to making the Pirellis last.
