University: where and what?

Currently a 2nd year at Nottingham University studying Physics with Theoretical Astrophysics BSc (was originally on the MSci but decided I'd prefer to just do 3 years then get a job :))

Off in September to start my first year (of four) to do Chemical Engineering at Sheffield :)

I'm at Loughborough in my final year of a degree in Computing and Management.

Our department came out the best of UK computing departments in the national student survey, but I'm not convinced that fairly reflects it to be honest.

It's not that it's bad, but if it's the best then other places must be hopeless. There are a few things here I'd improve on, in particular that it's all very impersonal and I think that after 3 years here only one lecturer (my project supervisor) knows me by name.

the standard of lecturing is also very varied, some are ace, some are complete tripe.

I've just finished my first year doing Geography at Plymouth four days ago.

I had three exams (for anyone interested):

2/5/06: GGP1108: Introducing Physical Geography: Geomorphology, Biogeography & Environment [3hrs]

8/5/06: GGH1105: Introducing Human Geography: Globalisation, Population & Development [3hrs]

9/5/06: IRL1015: International Relations Since 1975 (Mandatory first year elective) [1.5hrs]

Plymouth's third semester is pretty much exams from the outset, much earlier than most universities.

I think I've done alright. :) I've never been a huge fan of the physical side, and doing a 45 minute essay on soils or glacial till isn't the most enjoyable of tasks! :p

I'm just picking up shifts in the union at the moment before going home for summer. :)

It's a good degree and a nice university, but at the end of the day, no matter where you go, it's what you make of it.

I've had my ups and downs here, but I'm looking forward to the next two years and I'm aiming to get a very good degree out of this. At the end of the degree I'll decide if I wish to go on to further study or get a job.

I've met some brilliant people so far, and likewise I've met some complete pillocks.

Is your whole aim to wind people up on here. You say you understand that for some jobs that you need a degree but then you attempt to boast about being ahead.
Just for your information i'm doing a teaching degree which means I have lectures everyday and most days all day. When I am not in lectures I am in school and for the best part of two months a year I do the job of a full time teacher with the reponsiblity that goes with it for no money but to become a fully qualified teacher thats what has to happen.

I'm at Plymouth too :) I'll have finished my degree next week though :( I really like being in the south west, by the sea! Though i do wish some of my friends from the computing courses would venture outside of the city centre!

At the current state with the AUT there will be no exams.

Well not every lecturer is in the AUT, as far as I know here only one exam could be canceled (Out of the 3).

I live right opposite guild hall so i'm stuck in town 24/7 :o

I'd love to have a car down here too, Dartmoor is just a stones throw and you can be in Cornwall within a few minutes.

At the moment in town, there is some strange person who keeps playing the last of the mohicans on his recorder and he's been doing it since about 1pm.

EDIT:

Apparently it's panpipes he's playing and he's been playing since around 9am :o

Longest cover of the song EVER!

Half of 164 may theoretically be cancelled as a couple of the lecturers are on strike, thats why some of the cw hasn't been marked.

166 is the most likely to be cancelled though.

Get yourself a car, and get to the beach! :)

I was talking to one of my friends the other day, and they haven't even heard of places just outside of Plymouth as in the 3yrs they've been here, they've basically never gone outside of the very centre! Don't let that happen to you!

I'd be lucky to afford a car tbh ;)

The ups and downs I mentioned earlier is pretty much to do with money, and the lack of. At one point I literally had about 10p to last me two months. Ah well, I've got a job now :D
