Unlock your ATI 6950 to a 6970 Thread

i got my card yesterday, i spent an hour running all the benchmark/stress tests to make sure the card was fine at stock and i was happy it was in 100% working condition,then i flashed it and ran all the tests again :)

6850?. Don't you mean the 6950?.
 
Just a little FYI on the power connectors (might be irrelevant now, but I'm not checking the whole thread):

As discussed, the 6950 uses 2 6pin connectors, and the 6970 uses 1 6 pin & 1 8 pin connector.

I now have an HIS 6970 connected to my old PSU using the 2 * 4 pin to 8 pin connector they supplied - this connector only uses 6 of the 8 pins anyway, so I'm not sure if my 8 pin is now any different to my 6 pin.

Like I say, just an FYI in case anyone with a 6950 is concerned about the difference.
 
Hello peeps, I got my HIS 6950 today and i flashed it with the asus 6970 bios. All went well with the flash but 3dmark 11 keeps freezing no matter what i set the power options to. Any help would be great. ;)
 
Well that was odd. I disabled the scanning system info setting in 3d mark 11 and it ran fine :confused:

Crossfire: 5870's @ 900/1300 = 8.3k
Single 6970(flashed 6950) = 5,489

Well i have checked to see if the card is stable with furmark and its fine, benchmarks on the other hand do nothing but give me problems. vantage wont run,heaven gives me a fatal error just before the benchmark ends and 3d mark 11 will only complete if i disable the system info. wtf is goin on :confused::mad:
 
Ok 3d mark vantage wont run at all. Ive got heaven to work after re-installing graphics drivers. Can someone post up heaven results that runs @ 1920 by 1200 resolution please.

I just noticed that my card was a bit hot considering I was just browsing these forums.

I checked in MSI and just scrolling a web page up and down jumps my clocks to 880/1375.

Is this normal? I wouldn't have thought It would need to run at max for web browsing.
