Unlock your ATI 6950 to a 6970 Thread

Just installed a 6950 on 10.12's. Ran Heaven and I got sparklies on the screen. Now I have them while sitting in windows too. Does this mean the card has duff ram on it? Is the card needing RMA'd? Tried 10.12 hotfix also has same issue. So disappointed right now.

sparklies/artifacts are usually down to the ram i think. if you haven't flashed the card then i'd imagine you might look at an rma.

try to increase the fan speed if you can. i had something similar with an old nvidia card at stock fan speeds. upping to 100% calmed it down.

That is what I get after fifteen minutes of battlefield. Stock fan as I wanted to see what happened.

Case is an antec 300 but it has more fans than Justin Beiber- airflow is not the issue.

Does that look too high or am I just being a pansy after coming off a zalman vf3000?

I was getting high 80's in furmark with the custom fan which ramps up earlier than auto. Do you run at +20 on the power control?

I was but i then turned it down to 0 , havent noticed any difference when running furmark/heaven again

ive since set CCC to manual (35%) and idle has dropped to 33c with load being 71C,i played bc2 for an hour and topped out at at 65C

ive got a antec 902 case which is pretty good with the airflow/cooling

It's fine now, I got all into a panic there. Blasted the pci-e with air, reseated the card and it's all good with zero problems.

I can't get my card to idle at less than 40 without the fan being turned up to around 50 which is too loud.

I would have though my case would have kept it fairly cool. I have the Armor+ MX which has a 230mm fan on the side which blows straight onto the GPU.

Never mind, it's a lot better than my 4870x2 which idled at 72C! (and was much noisier) :)

Two days ago I've unlocked my HIS 6950 using sapphire bios. Everything working perfect but I had to make my own fan profile in msi afterburner, The temp in Heaven was around 86C but when playing World of Tanks it was getting to up to 91C. Now with custom profile its max 80C with the fan around 42%. In Heaven I observed 11.2% gain while in World of Tanks on average I have an extra 10fps more ~50>60. :D

Hi All,

Mines been unlocked for a few days now - No errors, and everything seems to be playing prefectly.

Ive not played around with the clocks yet - However, the BIOS as default put the clock of the memory to 1375mhz.

Ive just ran Heaven for 15 mins to gauge to temps, Max temp was 54. It sits idle at around 38 - 39 degrees - Thats with the fan speed set at 50%.

To be honest, I cant remeber the temps with the 6950 BIOS, but this doesnt seem much hotter....

Hmm shall I wait after a while till I flash my 6850 or do it straight away just in case it gets borked :o/ Just ordered and going from a 8800GTS so quite a big jump and that's been fine being slow and all but I'm worried that if I flash the new GFX and suddenly it breaks for whatever reason then I'm screwed for warranty
