**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

So I still stand by what I said. :p

You said PSS > PS4.

Michelin themselves contradicted you in the text you quoted by saying that one is not better than the other. Given they also stated they are made to two different design briefs, for a road car PS4 is probably the better choice.

Given Michelin have dropped the PSS apart from where they are contractually obliged to continue manufacturing them, I wouldn't be choosing them now.

There are different variations of the P Zeros.
I "think" it's
P Zero, P Zero Rosso, P Zero Corsa, P Zero Nero.

I had either just "P Zero" or Rossos on one of my Imprezas, absolutely AWFUL in the wet and I'm confident if I hadn't had them on it wouldn't have ended up getting written off :p

Sounds like P Zero Rossos - had them on my A3 and were a truely scary tyre in the wet.

PS3 was a blip :p

May have been a blip, but I thought they were quite good - probably not good enough to be called Pilot Sports though :(

Is PS3 being discontinued as well? I would assume not or not completely, as it covers 15" and 16" that PS4 isn't available in.

I've just had the following directly from Michelin when asking is the PS4 the direct replacement to the MPSS:

You can stand by it, but what a customer service adviser can pass on is no more or less than what is available on Michelin's website. It's not necessarily what is happening in terms of deciding what to continue selling or not selling.

I asked Michelin on Facebook a while ago if they were going to start making PS4 in 225/35/18 instead of MPSS and they said no. Since they're not AO tyres I am not sure why they've made that decision.

It was more to do with the fact that which Fox said the PS4 are the replacement for the PSS tyres. Also the PS4 are only made in limited sizes at present, so I know for me they are not a option.

I am still of the opinion that the PSS is a UHP tyre and the PS4 are a HP tyre be that right or wrong.

Just to add to that I have P-Zero's on mine, which are really bad in the wet / cold weather, so its not just the Rosso's.

Just a quick one that has been recently updated (or at least I hadn't seen it before) - Black Circles now have a little symbol next to their tyres to identify Rim Protection.

I was looking at the P-Zero on an F10 M5 yesterday and noticing they had zero rim protection! Needless to say the front wheels had a few scrapes. Surely it doesn't affect performance adding rim protection? Or is this a Pirelli thing?

Quick question (probably stupid) about tyreleader and getting tyres fitted. They do have a partner near me where I could get the tyres fitted, and the apparent cost for that is £13.51 - I presume that this is for each tyres, not all four?

Apologies if it is stupid, Ive only ever walked into an F1 Autocentre to buy tyres and of course their tyre prices include fitting, balancing, and disposal.

That'll be per tyre yes.

You might get it for a bit less if you find your own place, but how much the faff is worth is down to you :)

Anyone have a recommendation for my LS430, main requirements in addition to safety are ride quality and noise.

225 55 17, so quite balloony :D

Pics would have been handy.

Porsche N rated tyres usually have monster RIM protection so I guess not - can't see how they would affect performance anyway.

I'm going to need a full set of tyres for the clio 182 i've just bought. Trouble is there doesn't seem to be much out there in the tyre size i need, at least not the latest release of tyres anyway.

205/45/16

Michelin PS3
Goodyear Eagle F1 A2
ContiSportContact 2
Hankook V12 Evo 2
PZero Nero GT

Car is for driving to work in mostly, but there are some nice country lanes that allow it to be driven a little harder (which i do if traffic allows). The T1R's on it at the minute don't fill me with confidence, especially in the wet.

Cliosport forum seem to recommend PS3 or V12 mainly, but having had PS3 in the past, i'm struggling to commit. The F1 A3 i've got an other car are pretty good, but again i'm struggling to commit to the older A2.

What tyre would be best for fast road use, that isn't going to be dangerous in the wet?

Toyo NanoEnergy3 Tyres?

Hey all, anyone used Toyo Nanoenergy 3 tyres? thinking of using them for my aygo or is it risky and should i stick to the standard continental eco contact tyres it comes with as standard?

Most likely better off in the tyre thread, but may as well respond.
I've got the NanoEnegery 3 tyres on my Hyundai i10. Can't fault them so far, the fronts have lasted me about 30k miles now and the rears are on 20k, still with 3-4mm left all around.

They replaced the stock Kumho Solus KH17 which were awful though.

(I also do most of my travels in straight roads and on motoways, about 60 miles a day, so quite literally your millage may vary)

Seriously how much are tyres for an Aygo? Going for a cheaper brand you cant be saving much.

Just remember they are the only bit that keeps you on the tarmac...

well iv been on aygo forums and people dont seem to rate the standard conti eco contact3 tyres much and have moved to uniroyal rainexpert and say they are better on grip too.

not sure on the nanoenergy3 tyres from toyo they have a C rating in fuel efficiency and wet weather but again need input from people who have used them in the past.
i was thinking about going with khumo tyres but since kuros mentions the toyos are better then i may just go toyo this time.

What tyre size are you after, then we can better make some suggestions, as I'm sure there is more available than just Conti and Toyo's :D

Depends on the size to be honest - Toyo work out £25/corner cheaper for my car than Conti's. Whether Conti's are worth £25 more is debatable.

Whilst I 100% agree with not scrimping on tyres, equally it's not like Toyo are bargain ditch finders, they are still a quality brand.

Just because Conti's are the recommended choice in performance tyre sizes e.g. with CSC5/CSC6's, doesn't mean they are always the go to choice for all other use.

155/65/R14 for an aygo. and im based in coventry so any place thats cheapest to go to?

goodyear efficient grip compact is also on my list at around £48 a corner from f1autocentres. other than that its to go back to conti eco contact3.

blackcircles.com have the Goodyear Efficientgrip @ £48.36 or the Dunlop StreetResponse 2 @ £48.35 (+via blackcircles you get Tesco clubcard points, and can go via quidco for cashback as well)

I would be looking at either of the above (or staying with the Conti's), as the saving by swapping to Toyo's or Rainexperts in this size isn't a huge amount (~£8/tyre), and the only reason they get such attention and good reviews (particularly the Rainsport/rainexperts) is because of there price.
