Since we are here though (tyre thread), and I am looking for tyres for the 16's for the Alhambra, has anyone ever heard anything about the new Avon WT7 Snow's? I am considering trying them out, mostly because they are new and cheap. Although I have generally run Conti winters, and they are very good, they are roughly twice the price.
Pretty much this. The MPSS had done 15,000 miles when I took them off last month and I had noticed them getting slightly worse in the wet compared to when they were new. However, I had F1A2s on a Z3 and CS5s on an S3 before so I don't have a FWD-FWD comparison unfortunately.Doubt it. I completely believe what mjt said, but as I said previously, it's likely to be the cold and wet as this is when I myself have noticed the performance drops off
...
I stand by my comment that wet weather performance on the MPSS is very good. Extreme wet weather and cold wet weather performance is where it doesn't perform as well as some of the competition.
How are these coping? My concern with cheaper tyres (or rather, anything other than ContiWinterContacts) is not how they fare in wintery conditions, but rather how they do the other 90% of the time they're fitted...Since we are here though (tyre thread), and I am looking for tyres for the 16's for the Alhambra, has anyone ever heard anything about the new Avon WT7 Snow's? The wheels i have on the Octavia now came.with Dunlop wintersport 5's which I've left on for the moment.
They're....ok in more normal, wet/dry but reasonably cold weather, (its been fairly mild here so far, lots of days where it'll sit somewhere between around 6 and 10 degrees) letting go noticeably earlier than the ps4 but still pretty acceptable.
I wouldn't say they were any more impressive in regular weather than the likes of a premium contact or efficient grip but obviously come into their own when it's wet and close to freezing or below
Has anyone tried the Cross climate tyres, they appear to be a great all rounder for this country?
