I've decided I'm going to go with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 on my Saab. They're £88.50 per tire fitted.
Any objections?
Any objections?
Mk3 mx5. I have the standard 16" enkei 5 spokes which are pretty light in the garage still.
RSR and NS2-r both seem great value
I've just bought some AD08R's for a great price (£75 per corner for 205/50/16 size), so I'll give them a run on track in a month or so and give some feedback. I am expecting great things from them as every review has been very complimentary about them and that they're leagues ahead of standard road tyres.
As long as you're happy to accept they will wear quickly they are indeed fantastic. I have to be a complete tool to get them to unstick in a 250bhp MX5 in the dry. With the boost turned down to 200bhp levels in the current cold/wet conditions I have no trouble putting full power down in 2nd
Yeah, they'll only be used on track and I'll use my F1A2's on the road with my standard S Spoke alloys.
I am hoping to get quite a few trackdays out of them, since I'll only be doing 120 (track) miles or so, once a month.
What about smaller wheels? If its just a road car driven around town, aim for best braking tyres so:-
1. Conti CS3 / CS5
2. Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2
3. Michelin SuportSport
Ok, it's coming up to rear tyre replacement time on the M5. I have Goodyear F1AS2 on there at the moment (AS3 wasn't available in that size at the time), and the fronts are now F1AS3s (replaced a few months later).
Size is 275 35 R18, and I'm wondering whether to just go Goodyear again, or whether to go Michelin PS4, or something else entirely. We have PS4s on the Mini and they've impressed, plus they did well in the Evo test.
Car's a daily driver, and down narrow streets and lanes, so rim protection is appreciated (saved mine a few times this winter!).
Open to suggestions.
That doesn't seem so bad for a set of performance tyres on a powerful car which sees its share of spirited driving.
Quick question, since the MX5 is my first RWD car and I'm not used to the rears wearing faster than the fronts...
ATM the rears are on about 4.4~MM tread and the fronts are on 6.7~MM tread, should I be swapping the wheels front to back to even out the wear, since its also recommended to have better tyres on the rear?
Are your rears wider than the front? If so, then this might be difficult
I think on the MX-5 they're the same size all around.
What about sma...
I considered the Uniroyal RainExpert 3 for safety, but I hear they wear fast. Which also seams to be a problem with the Goodyear EfficientGrip.
Alternatively, bog-standard Avon ZV7?
I take it that swapping them round is a go then, I'll do it once I've got the car back.
What size wheels do you have? The PS4S tyres (Pilot Super Sport replacement) are being released in January if you can wait.
