**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

Mk3 mx5. I have the standard 16" enkei 5 spokes which are pretty light in the garage still.

RSR and NS2-r both seem great value

I've just bought some AD08R's for a great price (£75 per corner for 205/50/16 size), so I'll give them a run on track in a month or so and give some feedback. I am expecting great things from them as every review has been very complimentary about them and that they're leagues ahead of standard road tyres.

As long as you're happy to accept they will wear quickly they are indeed fantastic. I have to be a complete tool to get them to unstick in a 250bhp MX5 in the dry. With the boost turned down to 200bhp levels in the current cold/wet conditions I have no trouble putting full power down in 2nd

Yeah, they'll only be used on track and I'll use my F1A2's on the road with my standard S Spoke alloys.

I am hoping to get quite a few trackdays out of them, since I'll only be doing 120 (track) miles or so, once a month.

It's looking like I'm going to do a set of rears every 5-6k of spirited road miles (Plus whatever wear burnouts at santa pod added) fronts around 12k miles

RainSport3 wore at the same pace with stock power

If its just a road car driven around town, aim for best braking tyres so:-
1. Conti CS3 / CS5
2. Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2
3. Michelin SuportSport
What about smaller wheels?

I have a 2012 Mazda 3 1.6TS and drive it economically and gently - apart from pulling away when it over-revs horribly if not paying full attention.

The original Bridgestone B250 tyres have done 35k miles and are at the legal limit at the front, and spinning and slipping when pulling away.

They are noisy and poor in the wet, and I want something better.

I do town, motorway and country lane driving, often in the wet, like safety, low noise, a good wearing tyre and good grip (who doesn't), and rim protection for times I clip the kerb etc (never had a puncture yet).

What can you recommend? The Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 isn't made in my size (195/65R15 91V). Neither do the Continental CSC5/CPC5.

I considered the Uniroyal RainExpert 3 for safety, but I hear they wear fast. Which also seams to be a problem with the Goodyear EfficientGrip.

Alternatively, bog-standard Avon ZV7?

So pretty much exactly 10,000 miles later and the rear CSC6 are now on 2mm tread, fronts are on 4mm. PS4S are not out yet, so I'm going to get a pair of CSC6 again.

I really can't fault their performance, so am happy to buy again. Camskill seem cheapest once again. Regarding that "line" on the sidewall of the front driver side mentioned before, it's remained as is and hasn't been an issue. I think it's more a case of surface scar rather than an issue itself.

That doesn't seem so bad for a set of performance tyres on a powerful car which sees its share of spirited driving.

Quick question, since the MX5 is my first RWD car and I'm not used to the rears wearing faster than the fronts...

ATM the rears are on about 4.4~MM tread and the fronts are on 6.7~MM tread, should I be swapping the wheels front to back to even out the wear, since its also recommended to have better tyres on the rear?

Ok, it's coming up to rear tyre replacement time on the M5. I have Goodyear F1AS2 on there at the moment (AS3 wasn't available in that size at the time), and the fronts are now F1AS3s (replaced a few months later).

Size is 275 35 R18, and I'm wondering whether to just go Goodyear again, or whether to go Michelin PS4, or something else entirely. We have PS4s on the Mini and they've impressed, plus they did well in the Evo test.

Car's a daily driver, and down narrow streets and lanes, so rim protection is appreciated (saved mine a few times this winter!).

Open to suggestions.

What size wheels do you have? The PS4S tyres (Pilot Super Sport replacement) are being released in January if you can wait.

Are your rears wider than the front? If so, then this might be difficult :p

I run Uniroyal RainSport3 (not expert) on my V70. (agreed 245/40 R18 97Y XL so not small)
Its 500 mainly motorway miles a week, some stop start, some "making progress" and its a big heavy FWD car.

My fronts need replacing now but they have done circa 18K which I am happy with.
Its no sports car so wet performance is what I value most and they have been very good in any condition tbh.

18" diameter and 9.5J. Standard size is 275 35 R18.

I had heard about the P4S, will check what sizes they're planning on.

Edit: Just checked, and apparently the PS4S is being released in 19 and 20" only initially, though 18" is not yet on the release roadmap so unlikely to be in 2017. That's a pity.
