**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

I made a comment earlier in the thread about not really noticing any difference between T1R-s and F1As - have to admit that I driving in the torrential rain that we had yesterday and they were superb, pretty much felt no different to dry weather! Certainly don't remember the T1-Rs being as confidence inspiring in such poor driving conditions.

Indeed, the T1-Rs are far from great in the wet, I've never had any issues with normal driving in the wet though, I've seen much much worse!

Does anyone have Goodyear F1's?

I have a pair on my a3 tdi and I keep having to pump them up, every month or so they go from 36psi to around 19psi if unchecked. It is wierd that it is both of them doing it so not a random quality issue too. At the rear I have some cheap linglong types that were on it two years ago when I bought the car and they never lose pressure and still grip... the fronts however are terrible in the wet and you feel every bump and they make a racket too.

I had continental CS3's all round on my TFSI version and they were awesome, tons of grip, minimal road noise, and even with the S-Line suspension it felt like driving on a cloud.

175/65 R14..
Possible options include
Continental ECO Contact 3
Continental Premium Contact 5
Goodyear Ultragrip 8
Bridgestone A001

Any thoughts?

I moved from CS3 all round to the F1A2 and the F1 ridesbetter, grips better, lasts longer, is quieter and doesn't deflate.

Sorry what?

Sidewalls of cheese is the in joke on ocuk it seems. Osmosis is the process of molecules passing through things.

Anyway. I have F1As2 on both my Hondas and not really noticed anything excessive in pressure drop. I do have to top them up now and then, maybe every 2-3 months.

Sorry, osmosis specifically refers to a solvent :p

Get off wiki :p. Osmosis can be anything.

if you pumped tyres up to 36psi from 19 with a crap pump then that can get the air pretty warm. Making the pressure read higher that it is when cold. What do you pump them up with ?

Petrol station pump, at Shell.

I then read you can't do it when the tyres are hot? Can anyone suggest a pump I can use at home that will measure it and pump to the right PSI? I have a footpump but it is annoying pumping it next to the car for 10 minutes each wheel...I am lazy.

I bought a Ring Automotive 630 the other day after reading many glowing reviews about it. When you unscrew the pipe from the valve a bit of air does leak out, so I just pump them 0.05 bar over (I don't do PSI ;)).

The air you hear escaping when you remove the pump from the valve is not air escaping from the tyre, it's the pump+air hose depressurising.

How much does the speed rating matter when buying tyres? I'm after Eagle F1 ASY2 but the only speed rating is a Y which is 186 mph. I drive a Fiesta ST which isn't going to do anywhere near that speed. I'm guessing it doesn't matter.
