**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

Supposedly the new t6s fix a lot of the issues but I've not got to testing those - but I've kind of gone off the Bridgestone Turanza T005 - though fairly quiet they make a low pitched droning noise which gets annoying after awhile and too many sets of them I've seen, including 2 of mine, start deteriorating between the tread blocks way earlier than they should, albeit I think somewhat that is due to using them on vehicles with higher centre of gravity, and so exposing them to more lateral forces, than on a non-SUV/truck.

While excellent in the wet, if it gets really dry, like dusty dry, they become heavy and a bit vague as well, though the rolling resistance is spot on in most conditions.

EDIT: Dunno if available here but they are making a new all-season Turanza 6 which apparently is pretty epic.

EDIT2: The all-season 6 is available for the Qashqai - might stick some on there see what they are like.

TBH you can't go wrong with Michelin PS4 or PS4S or PS5, Conti Sport Contact 7's or Good year Eagle F1 Assy 6 I think it the recent ones.
I don't think any of those are available in the sizes mentioned. :p

Efficientgrip Performance are a great tyre, soft sidewalls though.

Just out of interest what in your opinion are the best summer tyres currently available in 165/65R15 and 185/60R15 sizes?
We had Michelin Primacy 4s on the Mini in that size and they were good tyres but have just switched to Vector 4Seasons as they worked out cheaper with an offer with Tyres on the Drive.

Talking of all season tyres, I actually got to put mine to use in snow yesterday on my way into work and the grip difference over my summer tyres was amazing. I'm definitely a convert for this time of year.

It means Xtra Load, meaning the tyre can carry more weight in the same size. You can use XL tyres on any car, but certain heavier cars REQUIRE XL tyres.

You'll notice the load rating of XL tyres is also higher, e.g. in the size you've given 88, versus 84 for standard load tyres.
Thanks for the info. According to the Michelin website I don't need XL tyres for my car. The car uses 165/65R15 81T and 185/60R15 84T.

The Primacy 4 XL tyres are 185/60R15 88H XL

makes a massive difference for the few days a year we get a covering (depending where you live). I live up North and we have lots more snow and ice compared to a lot of places. And a high altitude over 1000 feet which makes a big difference.

X5 felt well planted on the road yesterday and today and over took many people "plodding" along and struggling. :D

I live in Jersey and apart from a bit of snow on Tuesday last week we haven’t had snow for over 10 years. I wouldn’t drive in those conditions anyway.

The Primacy 4 XL tyres are 185/60R15 88H XL

So don't get XL tyres - just buy standard tyres

Also for reference, don't trust Michelin or any other online tyre site - look at what it actually says in the vehicle handbook/the sticker inside your car door / filler cap, and compare against what is actually printed on your current Tyre's sidewalls.

(Just in case your car has been fitted with aftermarket wheels, or has had different size tyres fitted because they are cheaper, or e.g. stretched for appearance reasons)

Yeah current tyres say 165/65R15 81H and 185/60R15 84H

Luckily we usually get very little in Liverpool, but I often drive to Scotland, Wales etc to go winter climbing and they've given me a little bit of extra confidence that I'm not as likely to get stuck somewhere.

Satisfying overtakes.

They'll probably be moaning on their local FB group about the crazy BMW SUV driver flying along dangerously. Whilst they badly drive their Fiat 500 about on linglong summers :D

Local FB groups complain about my driving in summer anyway :p Even had the police call around one night for a "chat" about my driving as reported by a member of the public.

No doubt he overtook a local doing 42 in a NSL and then actually dropped down to 30 in the village while said local was still doing 42.
Don't get me started! I'm surprised I haven't had any knocks on my door, not many people here have a purple M3 with an obnoxious exhaust.
