**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

After about 1000 miles or so I'm finding the F1AS2s a little squirmy at high speeds. I only have them on the rear and the inferior Michelins are still on the front, so I'm hoping this is just unbalancing the car a little and nothing more.

Grip, however, is much better, and I'm not suffering any comfort issues. Hopefully once I replace the fronts as well the car will settle down a bit more.

Had the front tyres replaced yesterday (along with one of the nearly new rears after finding a screw in it :/ ) so have F1AS2s all round. Squirmy feeling is now gone and the car feels much better. Front end is much more precise and the tendency to understeer a little is vastly reduced.

Very happy so far...and that's after driving in wet conditions only and before they've bedded in fully!

Still no droning to speak of Fox...although I guess my car suffers from other road noise intrusion anyway.

Well I kind of needed new front tyres anyway.

Hopefully these should be with me shortly, then I'll have matching F1A2's all the way round.

I put my other set of wheels on last weekend just to make sure it wasn't a wheel bearing or something and the droning has gone. I think I'll leave them on until after I get back from Germany.

No idea what to do really. Goodyear won't help, they tell me it's because the tyres are not BMW star marked. Despite the fact I've had them on BMW's for years with never an issue.

Ah well, at least I'll have a peaceful drive for a bit :D

Loved the sessantas on my 335d. Plenty of grip wet or dry. Didn't mind the re050a's I had on before, except they were run flats, so ride was a bit harsher.

Both are good tyres in my experience, but given the choice I'd go with the vred's again. I put 17k on the set I had and still had 5.5 mm on the front and 5mm on the back when I was finished.

When I get home in a few days, I'm putting a pair on the rear of my 330i.

Looking forward to swapping them for something a bit premium, be nice if I can get Eagle F1's again if they are still top, GSD3's were amazing
Those look like the OEM tyre that was fitted to the Z4M (no run flats on these), if they have plenty of tread left I'd just run those for a while then step up to something more modern when needed :)

Just ordered two rears for mine, fitting the correct sized Michelin Pilot Super Sports as they are now available.
£340 for two and looking at about £20 for fitting locally.

They are not runflats but they do appear to be quite old - they look like Contisport Contact 2's with a production date of early 2009.
Look like original ContiSportContacts to me - you can see the writing on the sidewall.

If there's plenty of tread left, why the rush?
Go on a drift day first ;)

You can't get Eagle F1 AS2s in the OEM Z4M sizes (which are an additional 5 aspect ratio over non ///M Z4s for 225/45 R18 and 255/40 R18) - the fronts aren't available unfortunately. Having a similar dilemma at the moment, I'm going to 17"s but would like a further increase in profile to ///M sizes, but again they don't do the extra at the front.

Thanks. I've ordered some, due for delivery today. Hopefully get them fitted over the weekend.

They're the ContiSportContact M3 tyre - the tyre that was built in collaboration with BMW especially for the E46 M3/Z4M.

However, like most tyres that were approved by the manufacturer at the time, they've very old now, and in terms of grip, likely to be superseded by F1A2's/CSC5 and definitely the Michelin PSS.

Puncture today, noticed after only moving 3 meters, pin in the sidewall. Must have picked it up on Friday and it's gone down over the weekend.

The opposite tyre still has 4mm on it :/

Going to replace the pair and move them to the back.

Could do without an unexpected £90 before Christmas.

edit.

And our living room TV just blew up, great :D

£90 for a decent pair of tyres! Don't know what you're complaining about!! ;)

Full set of Hankook K120 Ventus V12 Evo 2's (235/45/17 XL's) fitted to the OH's B6 A4 Quattro yesterday (mucho bargain price of £60 a corner fitted after some cashback and vouchers)

About 50 miles in and they seem pretty decent, obviously much more planted than the Minerva Ditch Masters that were on there before. Noise seems to be much reduced, ride about the same. Was going to go for PS3's or F1AS2's originally but for the mileage it does and it's usage profile the £30 a corner extra didn't seem worth it.

Kept a pair of the ditch finders as they still have 6mm tread on them. Not sure that I'll ever use them but couldn't face binning them! lol

As a temporary move to get to work and back, fitted an old PE2 that still has some life in it in place of the punctured tyre.

Surprised how horrible it feels with mixed fronts during even normal driving. Wouldn't want to push with them on, that's for sure.

Nice fresh pair of RE002's arrived today, so will be fitting them as soon as it's feasible.

Also picked up one of these, so I could move the car to a flat area to save the alloy. http://www.halfords.com/motoring/ga...sure-gauges/michelin-high-power-tyre-inflator

Pinocchio'd the tyre as I inflated it to 30 before jumping in and moving it :o

Another 70 miles or so on the new boots. Car definitely feels much better when cornering, it always felt like the back end was ready to step out before with the ditch finders on, now I reckon predictable understeer would be on the cards if pushed hard enough (not that I plan on finding out).

It is also so much quieter! Transformed the car really. It's reminded me why I never buy budget tyres! By comparison I have Michelin PS3's on my A3 and I think the Hankook is quieter and so far seems grippier (perhaps it's the wet weather).
