**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

Ended up going for Bridgestone D-Sports again as the availability of the Continentals at a reasonable price was terrible. So just under £400 got me a pair of fitted D-Sports. Hopefully this time once I've had the Hunter laser alignment carried out they won't wear on the edges as much.

Hi guys,

Looking to replace all 4 tyres on my car with Kumho KU39 in size 215/45/17(91Y)

Best price I've gotten at the moment is with Event Tyres mobile tyre fitters who I've used in the past. Comes in at £314.40 fitted. Anyone know of any better deals about on these tyres? I've compared with Blackcircles, mytyres, etyres and Camskill and Event are the cheapest.

Have i missed any?

Cheers,
Ste

Need some new tyres for my Golf MK6.

Size: 205/55 R16 91V

Was thinking about:

Michelin Pilot Sport 3 PS3
Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance
Bridgestone Turanza T001
Pirelli P7 Cinturato
Yokohama BluEarth AE01

Mostly motorway driving, but some city driving. Looking for something that's quiet and with good fuel performance.

No clue which tyres are good. How does my list look? Any I should add?

Cheers

In case anyone hasnt seen Michelin are doing £50 fuel voucher (so £50 back in your pocket basically if you own a car!) if you buy 2x 17inch+ tyres from selected retailers

Just bought 2 x 18 inch Pilot Sport 3's to take advantage of this and worked out at about £80 per tyre (+ fitting though).

I had KU31 on my car, whilst the grip and feel etc was good, the front's only lasted ~8000 miles until they were worn down past the wear markers. I don't drive particular hard or heavy either.

-Yes, they were cheap, but a false economy. Wouldn't get them again on a car I was planning to keep.

Last week I had a puncture so had to go to Kwik Fit on a Sunday for a new tyre, looking into it they were pretty reasonable price £155 inc VAT and fitting. I started at my local KF but walked out as they had me waiting so long and then served someone else before me with all the ignorance you could expect, went to another a few miles away and they couldn't be more helpful totally different service excellent.

I need 3 more really and am off to France next week, with the weather being pretty rotten don't want to risk legal ish tyres on the peages hammering along with the family.

Phoned them up today and they will price match a Black Circles price, what do you think.

Continental CS 2 225 50 17 94V x 3 £434.16 inc VAT fitted and balanced, didn't think that was too bad.

Aren't they kinda old now? Sport Contact 5 are out..

Had the Conti 5's fitted on Friday and had hunter aligment done as well. All I can say is I should have done this a long time ago.

Never again will I fit sub standard tyres to the car. The Falken's were abysmal, it has been raining constantly since I had the Conti's fitted and they have more grip in the wet than the Falken's had in the dry.

Looking forward to seeing what they offer in the dry :). I think they will let me push the car further than I would probably let myself!

This is where the more expensive premium tyres come into play. In the dry performance differences are small and mainly under braking.

But in the wet a budget tyre compared to a premium tyre are worlds apart in performance. I noticed this on the MPSS in the wet, the grip is unreal as is how progressive they are towards the limits of grip.

We have a lot of wet weather, so I find it crazy why people fit stuff like Nankangs, Falkens and other cheaper tyres which simply don't grip, brake or handle even close to more premium tyres. Even more so the more expensive rubber tends to last longer too, which removes the excuse of initial cost.

The MPSS blown me away, 10 track days, 10,000+ road miles, rears are hovering around 3.5mm and the fronts 5mm. That is simply beyond believe as they have lasted close to 3x longer than I could have got out of a set of competing tyres. My next tyre is an R-Comp, but once they've worn out, I shall be back on MPSS. :)

You are spot on. I've still yet to have any dry weather yet (lovely north east weather), but the confidence that these tyres have given my in the wet is unbelievable. Also the Falken's barely lasted 10k miles (I think they actually have only done 8k). So complete waste of money. I fully expect the Conti's to outlast and certainly outperform them. However they are already making me take every corner much quicker, just to test them out, and give me a :D every time. They just grip, and never let go! I doubt I even have the confidence to push them so far that they will eventually give in!

Look really good, put the HKS D1 86 around the TC2000 circuit nearly 2 seconds quicker than AD08.

I asked camskill about them last week. They spoke to Yoko UK and the reply was that there is no date set for importing these yet. Also that it is exactly the same apart from the softer compound. I wonder how the wear rate will be with those, regular AD08s last really well for me.

I had one of my tyres split yesterday, so I'm in need of 2 new tyres (I assume it's sensible to replace them in pairs, so both fronts will need changing)

My car is a mondeo (205/55/16) and has (or had) CSC2s all round but I'm wondering if I should be looking at something else. I see Continental EcoContact 5 are available and wondered if they'd be better than replacing with CSC2s? Or would something else be better recommended for my size?

Sorry if this has already been answered in the thread but I couldn't see anything

Continental Conti Premium Contact 5 - 205/55 R16 £65.70

There are some Hankook's (mid range) which would be acceptable for a mondeo I guess, but for £6 more I would definitely get the Conti CS5's...

Thanks, are premium contacts better than eco contacts? The figures given here
http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Continental/Eco-Contact-5.htm
http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Continental/Premium-Contact-5.htm
seem to show the ecos as being better in all areas and they're only £2 more

Seems odd, but I could be wrong on this but:

I thought the ECO tryes were based on minimal rolling resistance to improve MPGzz, and increase tyre life. Therefore that reduces overall grip, and I would also assume they won't be as good in wet weather conditions either...

Maybe someone with more knowledge will come in and answer that better for you.

However I would take that website with a pinch of salt to be honest...

They did a test on fifth gear recently, showed eco contacts worse (a lot worse) than a 'budget' tyre in wet braking. Not good, PremiumContact are good though.
