**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

Looks like I'm going with F1AS2 on the astra again! I can't be bothered trying something different to find I hate it.

Will be fitting the new ones to the back and the back ones I got fitted in april or so on the back will get rotated to the front.

Doesn't make me feel too bad about the Goodyears as it seems to handle fast dry driving very well!

Quick question. I had front tyres fitted today but requested the fit the tyres to the front wheels, put those on the back and fit the back wheels/tyres to the front of the car. I paid an extra £10+vat for that. I hate how car places add vat after the fact more than the fact they charged for doing it! Anyway, standard practise as they are doing extra work?

Hello car motory people, i need some help. Buying new tyres for the missus car and been told to shop around for prices, as she normally goes off to kwikfit and pays web prices. She's got a Skoda Fabia 1.2, tyres say 165/70/R14 81T on them, found a website selling 165/70TR13 does the R14 or R13 bit matter? They're only £20 per tyre, compared to £45 on kwikfit.

So many of you are probably going to roll your eyes at this post :p Genuinely no knowledge of cars beyond ensuring the tyres are inflated haha. Any and all advice welcome :)

Yes it matters, 13" tyres won't fit a 14" wheel!

Doesn't literally every tyre website have a big diagram explaining it when you search?
To be honest i care very little about anything to do with cars, just after advice on cheap places to get tyres online. I stick the numbers in on the website that it says on the current tyres and pay no attention to what they're actually for as i don't drive or own a car, just after helping the missus.

I never questioned it as I don't want to be that awkward customer. They did say it was extra last time but never charged.

That must by my 4th visit there for tyres, tracking(other than this time) and my dads car for tracking too.

Have used them directly and paid about £20 or so more than blackcircles would have been.

Any good tyre fitters near you Rodenal?

I get mine done for free if I buy from camskill or the likes but if they're cheaper / close to the same fitted I just use my local Strathclyde tyres who are fine, though I wouldn't use them for any mechanical work - for alignment I use either automek or performance tek who are both Honda guys

There is also a tyre place out in Yoker (near work for me)that will do you a hunter alignment with all adjustments for £40. His tyre prices are good too.

I've quite regularly had tyres swapped like this at numerous different places and not one has even hinted at charging for it - I'd actually be quite taken aback if I was asked to pay for it!

My boss got a rear tyre fitted to his X5 no problems with strathy tyres Airdrie, a good price too I was told.

They were bout £120ish a tyre vs £93 so didn't even bother to try price match them.

I've heard good things about automek and I work in East Kilbride so would make life easy. Mrs is going to be working in Clydebank so passing by Yoker might not be so tricky. What's the name of the place?

Black diamond tyres, it's next to a newish BMW /Mini place (not b for BMW).

The guy Andrew from Automek knows his stuff, but if all you're wanting is the car set up as close to factory as possible he might be a bit more expensive than others, plus obviously it's geared around Honda

Please buy Michelin, Continental, Goodyear or Pirelli tyres.
Don't fit the cheapest garbage you can find :(

I have fitted winter tyres to my two cars, a 10 year old c class merc and a 2002 vw golf.

I took the golf out in the snow Dec '14 and it had amazing traction, I do low miles, quality ones appear to wear well and we are most likely to have a crash in crap weather. Worth a look.

They are not noisy, they are a bit softer and have lots of cuts. Agree with mjt fit quality ones, I have a tyre fitter mate locally and I support their service otherwise we will lose it. You can source tyres on ebay, we have tons of local part worn dealers. If you buy alloys second hand meet at the tyre dealer and have the spun up to confirm they are straight - you cannot tell by just looking.
