**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

Recommended tyre for my 3.0i Z4, 265/30/19

its my daily (50miles a day) and the weather is starting to get colder and wetter so PSS are out the question *Wallet breathes a slight sigh of relief*

Cheers.

I'd just be buying a good summer tyre unless you're likely to encounter genuinely difficult roads ...so pss if available in your size would definitely be on my list

PSS... the british winter isn't cold enough for long enough to warrant cold weather tyres.

PSS aren't really that expensive compared to other premium brands either?

This is my first BMW, and first with big tyres, so i'm unsure of prices, I'd expected the worst when I bought the car anyway.

How much are PSS's or similar going for?

Goodyear Eagle F1AS2 = 170 ish
Continental Sport Contact 5 = 180 ish
Michelin Pilot Supersport = 185 ish

The Goodyears are decent tyres, I haven't sampled them myself but have heard that quite a few prefer the CSC5 & PSS.

I have a fondness for CSC5 on my E46 - fantastic tyre, especially in the wet.

All three will be good... but I'd pick the Conti or Michelin... at this price range, the price difference is minimal really.

Bit of a car noobie here, so what's the general consensus are summer tyres better to use all year than all season for England? Also do people tend to swap them for winter tyres or not? Doesn't get that bad here surely ;)

Thanks

Can of worms..

Generally in England winter is not bad enough for it to be worth the bother - a typical English winter is mild and wet in which case a UHP tyre will perform better than a winter tyre anyway.

I bought a set of winter wheels/tyres for my GF's Mini 2 years ago to stop her worrying about snow and they've so far proven a complete waste of time and money having been genuinely useful exactly nil times :D

If you live in a cottage in the middle of the Cairngorms/Snowdonia, or on a steep hill somewhere that doesn't get gritted etc then I might consider a set of proper winter tyres but for anywhere else Goodyears etc are fine.

265 isn't the standard width, it's usually 255 on a staggered setup, what width wheel have you got (understanding of course being 19s they aren't stock, so am guessing 9")?

Wish they would make them in my size :( Only CS2 available, no Eagle F1 after GSD3.. Not sure what to go for when I next need new tyres. 205/50/16 seems to be an awkward size, could use 225/45 too but not much difference in availability

Michelin Pilot Sport 3? They come in 205/50/16 according to Blackcircles

or Dunlop Sport Maxx RT
