**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

I think Continentals on my old Focus mk1 1.6 were £75 fitted a corner. Can't imagine budgets would be much cheaper than that for such a small size (think mine were 195/50/15) so may as well go for good tyres?

I doubt you'll find anyone on here who will recommend budget tyres... they're just not worth it.

In the grand scheme of motoring... tyres aren't the most expensive thing and the difference between the cheap stuff and the decent ones is tremendous!

What are the size?

It will be written on the side of the tyres like tummelv says... something like 195 50 R15 or similar...

Sorry, forgot to add the size! They are 205/55/16 so have just been looking at that size. The rainsport3s come in at £175 delivered

So rainsports aren't a good shout then?
Hotel break is of no use to me at the moment unfortunately :D

Goodyear Efficientgrip Performance always get good reviews in this size. They can be a bit too soft if she drives a bit quick though. Other alternatives (depending on price) are Dunlop SportMaxx RT's or even something like a Yokohama Advan Sport V105.

Audi A4 Avant S-Line 2.0 TDI what tyres would be peole reccomend?

Been quoted £100 fitted for Hanook Ventus S2 I think he said.

Bridgestone, Continental and Pirelli are the usual factory tyres on most Audis.

Bridgestone on the whole ride to hard (especially in conjunction with S-Line suspension).
Pirelli Pzero Rosso's are terrible in the wet once they are half worn, but otherwise last well (Had these on my A3).
Continental's are normally very grippy but wear reasonably fast (particularly on heavy front wheel drive cars like a diesel A4)

Other options though include:
Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 - Decent tyre on par with Conti's for grip

Michelin PS3 are a good all round tyre, and wear rate is meant to be very good (Currently have these on my A3, can't comment on wear yet).

Still maintain that in the UK we do not need winter rated tyres.

That article compares the CrossClimate to an EnergySaver+, so hardly the best "Summer" tyre that Michelin offer - surely a Comparison to a Pilot Sport 3 would be much better?

Depends where you live and its not a winter tyre But it's still a step forward for the uk winters.

But is it a step forward - a decent tyre like Michelin's own PS3 probably performs the same?

Winter rating (and indeed winter tyres) is for the UK at least 99% a money making scheme.

Separate Summer and Winter tyres never existed in the past (all tyres were all season) and we all managed fine.

Really? How long have the Germans being using them so yes they did exist in the past ;-) but Each to us own

Very much doubt a PS3 will perform the same in snow as the CrossClimate. It is a good idea from Michelin, and is a tyre I will be looking at when i need to replace the RainSport 3s on my car.

Maybe not, but I bet it's a lot closer than you think, and in wet/slushy conditions I would think a PS3 would come out ahead (hence why they haven't compared it, and used an EnergySaver instead)
