Upcoming M3 chips

There's no such thing as future proofing. It all depends on the level of improvement in future generations, and we don't know that years in advance.

people always act like they're future proofing, but more times then not that upgrade itch happens and you never keep it as long as you first intended
Says who?I've kept my laptops for over 5 years in the last 20 plus years.

I also keep my desktop main motherboard and psu for like 6 plus years and only update the ram and gpu when needed and I'm a hardcore techie

you're an exception then! Im quite the opposite, I buy things thinking im going keep for a longer time than I actually do, because sometimes a good deal just happens to come by with noticeable improvements.

Ive seen the same happen here as well where people tend to upgrade earlier than expected for a variety of reasons

Then some people did not buy correctly first time...

i could have just got the m1 max with 32gb but i know for a fact that i will need to upgrade that in 2 years for more ram and storage

Gurman

hahahahahahahahahahaha *breathe* hahahahahahahahahah

The man who predicts something. Then three months later, he predicts the opposite. Then he changes his prediction again. Eventually something sticks.

I refuse to read all these idiot rumour blogs these days, they're all full of absolute crap like Gurman. From a wishlist to a captain obvious to delusional. Smug as anything when their caption obvious rumours turn out to be true and silence or defensive when they're shown to be barking up a tree in the wrong universe. I absolutely despise them and their clickbait.

I find it fun guessing what is going to happen. I don't take anything as fact. Kinda the same as guessing who is going to win in the next cricket match.

I find guessing and speculating on forums fun, not the clickbait drivel telling people what is going to come which is the way these people sell it. After all they just want the clicks and the attention.

Gurman is Apple's mouthpiece, anything he says pretty much comes from Apple's PR. They use him to gauge interest towards products and also to troll the market a little, and of course manage expectations. He's usually pretty good right just a few days before events, but not months before.

Maxtech enters the chat…

No. No. Just no.

Why you should skip m3 and wait for m4… Mark Gur…

So who’s predicting the next set of chips after m3? I’m going with m4, m4 pro, m4 max and m4 ultra. I’m guessing the ultra will be 2x m4 max chips and I think all of the chips will be on a refreshed version of 3nm for small improvements over the m3 parts but with additional improvements to engines and the amount of GPU cores.

All of this is based off of the same set of predictions we used last time but this time we are basing our thoughts on apples A18 following the M3 and it’s A17 influence.

Taking bets until q4 ‘24.

This will be another excuse for YouTubers then to label the M1 air as only good enough for taking notes on in class. When a few years ago they were marvelling at being able to edit 8k video. Progress can be a funny thing.

Interesting to see where this is going to go. Sooner or later they will run into a dead end, as both Intel and AMD have at various points in their history.

One advantage they have over Intel and AMD is that they can throw unlimited money at the problem and solve it that way.

Being able to outbid anyone to get TSMC's best and greatest nodes also helps here.

Yes this is the one that grates on me the most. I too give all these clickbait videos an extra wide birth and Max Tech is almost a parody of itself now it's so ridiculous.
But I totally echo your point - at the time, the M1 Air was 'good enough' for some YouTubers so run their "business" and now all of a sudden that model is now useless. It's like the old washing up liquid ads from the 90s where the latest Fairy (other brands are available ;) ) could leave your dishes sparkling but once the newer Fairy came out suddenly the old one was crap -almost like dirt had built up an immunity to it :p.

Ah, so that’s why it’s £200 for 8GB or RAM.

Problem is, they make content and money on these idiotic views, The majority of them could get away with much older computers, they go overboard and recommend it because it generates them income, which I appreciate but I still despise. After all, some of these idiots shoot in RED 8K footage for YouTube lol.

Good old Apple Tax, that's just because they're scummy. Apple upgrades are sheer lunacy.
