Upgrade recommendations

Got ya. Well you’ve certainly done your homework with regards to the difference in specs. Helped me lots!
I’ll have to get some pictures once I go for it and report back with the new desk etc.
i only recommend stuff i have previously used/would use
i will never recommend stuff i would never use :P

What’s your thoughts on coolers? I was going to repurpose my NZXT but looked at some of the cheaper AIO on OCUK. RGB preferably
for the cooler, thermalright frozen prism 360mm (review: https://gamersnexus.net/coolers/the...-5690-360mm-liquid-cooler-frozen-prism-review )
there's a 240mm version available too
as to where to get it from...google is your friend :)

but to be honest, the 7600 is pretty easy to cool, if you want to save some money currently you can just used the included stock cooler (which is also incidentally why i didn't spec a cooler in the first place)

Thank you. It was mainly for aesthetics. The NZXT cooler I have probably would work but I’ll have a read of the above

if your nzxt cooler still works, the AM5 mount is exactly the same as the AM4 mount so you can just use it

I’ve bought some thermal paste remover and some more thermal paste. Surely I can’t be jinxed and storing it in the garage hasn’t knackered this too! Joke. I noticed that NZXT were selling AM5 mounts which had me confused as to whether mine would still work.

It’s been a good cpu. All clean!

Tamzzy what’s your thoughts with regards to the AMD Radeon™ RX 7800 XT compared with the Nvidia 4070 super apart from cost?
The 7800xt is more akin to the 4070 non-super
So, the 4070 super is faster (the equivalent Radeon card is the 7900 GRE)
The Radeon cards have more vram
The Nvidia cards have better software support (rtx and dlss) and cuda and also less power hungry

Thanks that makes some kind of sense. I was watching a few videos with regards to more or less what you have mentioned. I think at this point any saving is a plus for me

the price differential between the cards (4070 vs 6800xt, 4070 super vs 7900GRE) isn't massive over the lifetime of the cards as you save on the power bill, and also nvidia cards tend to hold their value better in the used market
radeon's larger vram will always be useful over time for pure rasterisation performance but definitely DLSS is better than the radeon equivalent
tl;dr it's not a clear cut choice

(current owner of a 7900XT, ex owner of a 3080)

Spot on that’s good information too. I’m adding everything you have mentioned to the basket. Just building up the bravery to press the checkout button without the Mrs kicking off too much haha!
I do appreciate your really helpful in depth knowledge with the parts mentioned. I’ve noticed the 7600 is out of stock now at OCUK!
The AOC monitor I also bought in 2017 but I’m making do with this for now. Same for the Corsair mouse and keyboard but I’m not overly happy with either of them
