US Open 2018

That the sort of thing Novak would do :D

It's pretty disgusting that she tried to use every trump card possible - i'm a woman, i'm a mother, etc to try and defend her awful actions. ANY player would have received code violations for the things she said and did, whether they were black, white, male, female, identify as a turnip, whatever.

She used the mother excuse when Konta thrashed her 6-1 6-0 at the start of August too. As if she doesn't have an army of Nannies and family doing all the work. Lest we forget Federer's own brood turning up three at a time and, if anything, inspiring him to acheive even greater results on the court.

Serena yet again showing her true self. How she continues to be considered a role model and national treasure is quite a mystery.
Disgraceful.
Appalling role model, I think she's taken everything to the extreme. A liar and a thief?! what is she on about! Blaming everything on being a woman maybe she should fix that.
Andi.

I've just watched it and I'll not lie I took great satisfaction in seeing her being brought back down to earth. Credit to the umpire for not being scared of her status and the inevitable **** storm it would create.

She's your typical diva/narcissistic celebrity, wears catsuits that are against dress code to draw attention to herself and then kicks up a fuss when told to dress appropriately and now threatens the umpire that he'll never officiate another one of her games again for not apologising for enforcing the rules. I especially liked how she brought sexism into it, was her opponent a male then?

Osaka totally dominated Serena throughout the entire match, and won convincingly. The crowd cheered Serena's multiple code violations, and booed Osaka's victory. Utterly disgusting. It's incredible that people are still making excuses for Serena's bad behaviour.

Id agree that the umpire was brave to stick to his call and punisher her further.

As for the cat suit, I can’t see how it’s drawing attention to herself. She went through a pretty awful ordeal when giving birth and the suit she wears is for medical reasons as she’s supposedly had issues with blood clots and the suit helps her with them.

I don’t like it when players hound refs in football and her behaviour towards the officials was definitely over the top. She’s clearly not at 100% and it’s very obviously affecting her temperament

Well she stands out from the rest because she's not wearing the designated dress code that everybody else has to abide by, as for the medical aspect I see she didn't wear anything to help prevent blood clots yesterday, you can still wear things like tubular bandages to help but of course that's not very fashionable and doesn't make any divisive political statements.

I think we should take a moment to appreciate Ramos and his unflappable professionalism yesterday. Under trying circumstances he simply enforced the rules and remained calm while doing so. I hope he gets the credit he deserves. And a payrise!

By this I mean she wore all black out of all the colours available, it was nicknamed the Black Panther outfit and she likened it to making her feel like a Wakandan princess. If that's not politicising sport I don't know what is. I see her marketing team are already turning yesterdays outburst into a sexism issue as well. I really hate the poisonous divisive climate we are in at the moment.

I wonder how much she pays her PR team a year? However much it is, it's not enough. Of course most people don't need such a team to prove they are good people. Just acting like a decent human is usually enough. I guess if you're simultaneously a Tennis icon and a jumped up brat, you need all the help you can get.

That was a great article, thanks! Imagine being on the receiving end of one of Mac's legendary tirades! It would try the patience of a saint.

Thankfully Hawkeye has helped in some regards, and i'm fully sold now on the Serve Clock. After all there's no point ranting at the Umpire when a time violation is given now. The clock is impartial, accurate and doesn't give a fig about your ire.

Not picking sides or anything but Carlos Ramos, among other things, is known for getting himself overly involved in proceedings.

I don't think he's very well respected by the players, tbh.

Are you thinking of Mohamed Lahyani? He likes the slightly theatrical approach, but loves the game of Tennis. Tends to put himself into the game a little bit. Not that anyone minds.

Carlos Ramos is a 'gold badge' umpire that everyone in Tennis respects. Players and Officials alike. He's one of the best. Umpires don't get to stick around for as long as he has, and reach the upper tier, if they frequently make mistakes. Nobody has any right to complain when an Umpire applies the rules. The rules are very clear and so are are the penalties.

Also worth noting that the Chair Umpire, like the Ball Kids at Wimbledon, (or the players for that matter), only get to be on court for the Final if they've performed better than the rest throughout the Tournament.

There should be a r/ramosdidnothingwrong subreddit, no? :)

It's Carlos Ramos I'm referring to, just my observations over the years.

As for Mohamed Lahyani, personally I don't really mind what he did, but I can see both sides of the argument.

Getting there. Next step will be AI and sound level meters (for women). More than 80db? Sorry you lose the point :)

I hadn't even considered the possibility, but anything to stop the unnecessary squealing is a plus in my book!

Edit:

In other news it looks like Rain at Flushing Meadows. Likely that the roof will be on. Listening to the Prime hosts recap last nights events, it occurs to me that they have to be careful what they say, with prime being owned of course, by an American giant. I wonder if they're somewhat compromised by that?

Does anyone know if Sue Barker has commented on last nights match? I'd love to know what she thinks.

Djokovic has started the match very aggressive, probably out of respect for Del Potro's power but the shorter points will mean Del Potro's fresher later on.

Edit: Pressure's on the umpire to manage the amount of time Djokovic is taking to serve tonight, if she lets it pass then it provides weight to Serena's argument.

Edit: First set Djokovic. Unless Del Potro can change something with his game this'll end pretty quick, he's taken away Del Potro's weapon by aiming for the backhand more often than not.
