- Utter turd - OCUK WORST GAME OF THE YEAR

1. Sim City - truly awful. Loads of people were outraged and yet this led to
2. BF4 - has the potential to be a great game but is a steaming pile if turd, even 2 months after release
3. Colonial Marines - demo footage and final game were completely different. Lighting, effects, graphics and sound. I mean, really?

I have managed to avoid most of the bad releases this year, with the exception of SimCity and BF4.

With SimCity I can sort of understand what they were trying to achieve by limiting the city size and forcing the cites in each region to complement each other, but sadly in the real world with random players it does just not work most of the time.

BF4 may have a good game in it somewhere. My patience with DICE's ability to fix it however is fast running out.

It really is Aliens: Colonial Marines! Honest!

I grabbed it when it was on Amazon.com for $2 the other day - that's $3 too much!

Fired up the game - it didn't look as graphically bad as I feared from reviews, although some textures were awful up close, and the sounds were great.

It all falls apart when the Aliens put in an appearance - from some of the most terrifying movie screen presence down to a pitiful, teleporting game enemy :(

Uninstalled.

Ashes......bought it as a present for a friend. He didn't speak to me for a couple of days but he sees the funny side now.

Dayz standalone

Why ? Because it's a downgrade from the mod in its current state, f all loot, f all zombies, f all fun. There is just nothing to do once you're tooled up, just wander about I the hope of seeing someone you can shoot. 95% of game time is spent running or jogging, it's still as clunky as ever and it somehow runs worse than the mod.

It is a work in progress and therefore contains a variety of bugs. We strongly advise you not to buy and play the game at this stage unless you clearly understand what Early Access means and are interested in participating in the ongoing development cycle.

It was a closely fought contest, but in the end I would have to go with Total War : Rome 2. A classic example of mutton dressed as lamb. It would be safe to say Creative Assembly weren't on my Xmas card list this year ...

A dishonourable mention for X : Rebirth, which came in second on my **** list for 2013.

1. X Rebirth
2. Rome 2
3. Battlefield 4

All of which I paid full price for, so been a pretty **** year for wasting money on crap!

All of them pre orders which had glowing previews. Never again will I pre order anything.

1. Alien Colonial Marines - No idea how it could be anything else
2. It doesn't matter and neither does anything else as the above was that bad.

Hopefully for 2014, people will learn to stop pre-ordering games! It doesnt make any sense. No work required from developers, release a broken unfinished pile of ****, you've already got the sale!
I guess Sim City would be my disappointment of the year, thankfully I waited for the reviews to surface and didnt buy though. Absolute joke of a game, huge downgrade from SC4.
